  1. Marvelous Travel Emily Stricklin Senior Internship Spring Semester 2013

  2. Roles and Responsibilitiesof the Profession Plan vacations including land, air and cruises for clients Go on FAM trips to explore resorts first hand to give clients advice and tips Give clients the best price and most memorable vacation Give clients packing tips and advice how to book their own vacation for the future

  3. Activities and ProjectsI saw my mentor involved in Lots of researching- resorts, air fare, cheapest price, activities Phone calls- with clients, airlines, Help lines Going on FAM Trips, business meetings and Travel Shows to learn about new resorts

  4. Activities and Projectsmy mentor allowed me to participate in as a high school intern Writing Final Payment letters to clients, notifying that their booking is complete Filing client records into Excel Using Cruise Planner’s to book cruises Updating the Marvelous Travel Facebook page to include pictures and descriptions of Marv and Sue’s recent travels Writing blog posts of different locations to be put on the Marvelous Travel Website

  5. This profession matched my expectations in the following ways… All employees must be sociable and knowledge with their travel experience Travel Agents must know about the Travel Industry and what’s happening in case people call to ask Travel Agents must be knowledge in all fields- land, air, cruise Must be patient and willing to take time to research all the clients wants

  6. This profession was not what I expected in the following ways… I didn’t think it would require so much time and effort each day for Marv and Sue, they put in late nights and weekends, to get the job done. I didn’t realize how many people would rather a Travel Agency book their vacation, rather than there self, even if its more costly. That Travel Agency’s are dying down, and in the future will not be needed.

  7. The Environment in which I worked… Was fast paced, constantly switching from one vacation to the next I Describe the pace as quick. I worked by researching, booking, making final payments, writing letters of final notices and listening in on phone calls with about 10 different clients throughout my time at Marvelous Travel A “typical” day at Marvelous Travel is, answering phone calls from interested clients, researching different locations, traveling to visit new resorts, book cruises, air and land and more. The area you worked in was a home office.

  8. The People I worked with… I came in contact with interested clients that list multiple preferences they want, usually budget is not a factor, then Marvelous Travel is faced with the task of finding a resort that fits all the preferences. Some clients are demanding, they want a certain location no matter what an experienced agent tells them. I had frequent contact with help lines such as, GoGo and Apple. All the employees are very friendly and eager to help with your needs.

  9. My advice for students interested in this field/profession… • Must have an interest in traveling • Have a lot of travel experience so they can put in input when clients call about different locations • Must be a people person and like to talk to lots of different people throughout the day, including over the phone, through email and written letters.

  10. I chose to intern in this professional areabecause… I have always loved to travel and learn about different places. I plan to major in International Business and one day work in an International Company that requires traveling often. By working at a Travel Agency I have learned great travel tips, knowledge, packing tips, and how to book cheap vacations for the future.

  11. During Senior Internship I learned… I learned I am an easy learner and pick up on skills quickly. This Internship was good for me because I learned I am a very hard worker if I have an interest in the work. I learned how important referrals and word of mouth are to a small company. How much Marv and Sue love what they do, and love showing other people what they have experienced through their travels.
