More universal curve fits

More universal curve fits. Matthew Jones. May 12, 2004. New stuff: Included low p T  e + e - Examined low p T biases in dE/dx Sample parameter sets ready. Low p T Conversions. Low p T conversion selection: One leg has p T > 0.5 GeV/c |d 0 (e § )| > 0.1 cm (ie, not SVT tracks)

  1. More universal curve fits Matthew Jones May 12, 2004 • New stuff: • Included low pTe+e- • Examined low pT biases in dE/dx • Sample parameter sets ready

  2. Low pT Conversions • Low pT conversion selection: • One leg has pT > 0.5 GeV/c • |d0(e§)| > 0.1 cm (ie, not SVT tracks) • |Sxy| < 4 cm at cotangent point • | z| < 4 cm at cotangent point • |d0()| < 0.3 cm • 10 < R < 35 cm • Fit  cot  for signal fraction

  3. Low pT conversions • Fit with 3 Gaussians • Example:

  4. Universal curve fits • Simultaneous fit to TOF+dE/dx data and  cot+dE/dx from conversions. Pions Electrons Pions Electrons

  5. Universal curve fits • Conversions did not change fit parameters significantly. • Still see systematic bias at low momenta:

  6. Summary • Is there enough freedom in the standard universal curve parameterization? • Need to study different resolution functions • Current set of parameters available for further study: http://www.physics.purdue.edu/~mjones/dedx
