Social Studies 8 Curriculum • US/NYS history from Civil War to present. • Despite the State’s decision to drop the NYS Assessment, students will continue to focus on the skills that have traditionally been deemed important. • This will include analyzing historical documents and writing document based essays (DBQ’s). • Reading and Writing

  4. ELA 8 Curriculum • Exploration of Literature & Literary Elements • Literary Analysis • Expository Writing • Poetry • Vocabulary • NYS Assessment Preparation

  5. Math 8 Curriculum • Pre-Algebra • Preparing for the NYS Math Assessment • Algebra - High School Credit • Preparing for the NYS Math Assessment and the NYS Regents Integrated Algebra Curriculum

Science Curriculums • Class objective and homework is always on the assignment board for students to write down in their composition notebook and agenda. • We will be preparing for a two part NYS Science Assessment throughout the year. • Science 8 • Topics covered: Physical Science (Chemistry, Electricity, Magnetism), Astronomy (Stars, Solar Systems, Galaxies), and Earth Science (Weather, Plate Tectonics, Rocks & Minerals) • NYS Regents Living Environment • Topics covered: Living Organisms, Homeostasis in Organisms, Genetic Continuity, Reproduction & Development, Evolution, Ecology, Human Impact on Ecosystems, Scientific Inquiry & Skills, Laboratory Skills • Students must successfully complete all lab assignments to sit for the NYS Living Environment Regents Exam in June
