The context • The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) is inviting teachers, parents, and students and other interested parties to share their views on a series of proposed new developments for senior cycle • These include • Revised syllabuses in Biology, Physics and Chemistry • Draft syllabus for P.E. (as a Leaving Certificate examination subject) and a draft Framework for teaching P.E. as a non-examination Leaving Certificate subject • Draft short courses in Psychology and Enterprise • The consultation runs until Friday October 28th

  3. Workshop aims • As a staff, to discuss our vision for the future development of senior cycle education • To agree how we can contribute our views to the NCCA as part of the current consultation process

Let’s begin by thinking about what is our vision of senior cycle learning? • First jot down some key words or phrases that sum up your vision of the kind of learning you’d like to see in senior cycle 2. Then go to http://www.ncca.ie/consultations and click on this icon to hear some ideas 3. Share your reactions to the podcast with a partner

  6. SO WHAT NEXT? In small teams - • Why not use some subject planning time to look in more detail at the specific changes being put forward in the any of following • The sciences • PE • Short courses – enterprise and psychology? Individually give your views - • Fill in the quick questionnaires that you will find at www.ncca.ie/consultations

  7. To conclude • How useful was today’s session? • Use post-its and write ‘one thing I liked about today’s workshop….’ and ‘one thing that could have been better’? Paste all the post its onto a flipchart sheet as you leave the room. • Remember that all teachers, parents and students are invited to share their views on proposed change so please spread the word
