  2. Timelines • 60-45 days prior • Identify the date of the training/workshop • Find a location and speaker • Divide responsibilities • Collect registrations • Request CEUs • Order food • Arrange technology • Communicate with venue and speaker • Misc • Begin Advertizing

  3. Timelines Con’t • 30 days prior • Submit a CEU request form to SDCA • Begin planning for food • Continue promotion • Collect registrations-begin a registration list • 7 days prior • Provide final food numbers if needed • Follow up with speaker

  4. Where and When • Location • Cost • Size • Liability • Contract for use • Date/Time • Good for attendees • One hour of presentation=one CEU • Advertising • Email • Flyers • Websites • Word of mouth • Promote speaker credentials

Presentations • Call for Programs • Done for larger trainings • Provides for a variety of speakers and presentations • Gives you an overview on what will be discussed • Chosen Speaker • You pick the topic and then choose a speaker • Speaker is an “expert” in the field • Make sure of credentials and background • Provide a per diem or other compensation • Contracts

Topics • Call for Programs • Provides for a variety of topics • Presentations are then chosen based on attendees level of interest • Chosen Speaker • Preplan topics that are of interest to attendees • Advertize specific topic trainings • Ethics • DSM-V • Can do multiple speakers that cover one topic area • Child Abuse • Signs and Symptoms • Interviewing • Therapeutic Intervention

  7. The Money… • Expenses • Location • Food • Advertizing • Stiepend • CEU fee for non SDCA members • Cost to attend • Make sure you cover all expenses • Provide a lower rate for SDCA/AoS/Chapter members • Have a refund policy

  8. Continuing Education Units-CEUs • Provided by SDCA • SDCA must stay in compliance with NBCC • Audited every five years • Process MUST be followed • One hour of training=one CEU • Social time/meals/breaks times are not counted

CEU Procedure Prior to Workshop • Identify person in charge of CEUs • Fill out and return 30 days BEFORE training along with presenter’s resumes • Located on the SDCA Website • http://www.sdcounseling.org/board-information.html • Title of Program • Must fall under the approved content areas • Schedule and location • Number of hours provided • Presenters • RESUMES are REQUIRED! • After request form is approved a CEU form will be emailed to you

CEU Procedure Day of Workshop • Must have a Roster or Sign in of those attending • Name, Contact info • Y/N member of SDCA (not the Chapter or AoS) • Must collect $5 for all NON-SDCA members • This money is then turned over to SDCA • CEU forms (2 copies) • One copy is filled out by participants and is RETURNED to you • Other copy is signed by the designee and given to the attendee for their records

CEU Procedure After Workshop • Person in charge of CEUs must send in… • $5 for each non-SDCA member who received CEUs • If SDCA manages your money-an email with the amount to transfer will work • If you manage your own money, checks should be payable to SDCA • Person in charge of CEUs must send in… • The roster of ALL participants • CEU form that was filled out by participants • This is for SDCA records • Often people request copies for licensure renewal • SDCA has to keep these forms for 5 years

Workshop Hospitality • Participants • Provide a schedule of the day • Classroom vs. Round table • Have handouts or email handouts beforehand • Snacks and beverages • Appropriate breaks/meal times • Speakers • Provide projector/screen • Provide a schedule of the day • Provide an introduction • Provide beverages as needed • Provide some sort of compensation
