  1. What is Type 1 Diabetes? T1D is a chronic disease caused by immune-mediated destruction of insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. 

  2. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood.

  3. How common is type 1 diabetes? The incidence of type 1 diabetes is expected to double in children less than 5 years of age by 2020 in developed countries.
