  5. GED® Skill WorkbooksInventory and Study Planner • Take Inventory of skills • Read the directions and encourage students to answer every question to the best of their abilities. • You have permission to copy the answer grid for student use. • Administer the inventory as an untimed test. 6. GED® Skill WorkbooksInventory and Study Planner (cont’d) • Check answers and use study planners • Students check answers and read explanations. • Students fill in study planner to targetboth content skills and thinking skills needed to pass the GED Tests. TipYou can use the Study Planner results to both strategize which skills to focus on with the whole class and to work with students to make individualized study plans. Skill Review Lesson

  7. GED®Skill WorkbooksSkill Review Lessons • Left Page • Content Review • Preview the 2-page lesson by reading the lesson title and the key topics (the subheads in the left column). • Right Page • Practice Questions • Explain that the GED-type questions ask them to do more than “look up” an answer. As on the actual test, questions require them to apply, analyze, or evaluate information. • Students answer the questions, check answers and read explanations. • Discuss questions that are difficult for students. <insert copy of GED Social Studies, p.37> TipExplain that the review lessons summarize key GED content. Encourage them to ask about terms or concepts that they don’t understand as they do the lessons.

  8. GED® Skill Workbooks GED Skill Builder Lessons • Four-Page Lessons Scaffold Instruction in Higher Order Skills • Page 1 - Left Page • Introduce GED Skill • Introduce GED Question Skill • Use the definition at the top to explain the GED skill. • Read sample GED Question • Students answer a sample GED question. • Follow “Think It Through” Process and the Answer and explanation • Students follow the Q and A format that models the thinking process – including explaining why the right answer is correct and the wrong answers are wrong. • Explain that on GED multiple-choice questions, students need to carefully review each answer choice. 3 3 TipEmphasize that questions on the GED Tests will require the “higher order” thinking skills that they will learn to work with in the GED Skill Builder Lessons.

  9. GED® Skill Workbooks GED Skill Builder Lesson (cont’d) • Page 2 – Right Page • Guided Practice • GED Questions • Students are supported as they develop thinking skills to answer GED questions. • Hints • Hints are provided to coach students through the thinking process, much as a personal tutor would help them think through questions.
