  1. Sneak a Peek at Our Week! Mrs. Hickel’s First Grade News September 11, 2009 Weekly Review Tuesday: We read the story Jack and Rick. We talked about different farm animals. We built –ack words. In math we worked counting pennies, nickels, and dimes. In math we learned about the ones and tens place value. The students used base ten blocks to practice making numbers. Wednesday: We read our new story Jack and Rick by David McPhail. It is a very cute story about two friends wanting to play together. We talked about our –ick spelling pattern and made –ick words on our own. In math we students learned about expanded form and standard form of numbers. We then used our knowledge to play number bingo! We had a lot of fun in math today! Thursday: We read Jack and Rick again today! We learned about beginning, middle, and end. The students wrote about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Then they drew pictures to go a long with their writing. In math we worked more with standard and expanded forms of numbers. Students worked in groups to match the expanded form of a number with it’s standard form. Friday: We read Jack and Rick today on our own, and took the end of the reading assessment. The students have done an awesome job with this task! In math we learned how to write our numbers to 100! This was a long task, but we made it! During writing we read Brown Bear Brown Bear, and then made our own book using the students in our class. The book turned out very cute! Have a wonderful weekend! Monday: Skate Party @ 6:30 Wednesday: Home Learning Activity brought back Thursday: Spelling Test Friday: Book Orders Due Guided Reading will begin on Monday! Help your child remember to read every night and return their bags daily! Don’t forget about the skate party on Monday night! It is a great way to interact with other Green Springs parents and students!
