  2. Fourth Amendment: • protects against unreasonable “search & seizure” • Officers can ask for a searchwarrant: court order allowing law officers to search your home Protecting the rights of the accused

  3. No trial without indictment: formal charge from a grand jury: group of citizens Double jeopardy: if you are judged not guilty, you may not be retried for the same offense The Fifth Amendment

  4. Protects your right to remain silent Due process: follow established legal procedures

  5. Protects you from the govt power of eminent domain: govt can take private property for public use. Govt may pay a fair price

  6. Jury trials must be speedy and public Accused can hear and question any witnesses Lawyer will provided if you can’t pay The Sixth Amendment

  7. If you don’t get a speedy trial, you can post bail: sum of money use as a security deposit. Judge decides amount of bail and if you are allowed bail. Forbids “cruel and unusual” punishment The Eighth Amendment
