Newton's Second Law

3. Newton's Second Law. When an object’s speed increases, the object accelerates. If an object’s mass increases, its acceleration also increases if the net force acting on the object stays the same. 3. Newton's Second Law. 3. Newton's Second Law. What is Newton’s second law of motion?

  1. 3 Newton's Second Law

  2. When an object’s speed increases, the object accelerates. • If an object’s mass increases, its acceleration also increases if the net force acting on the object stays the same. • 3 • Newton's Second Law

  3. 3 Newton's Second Law What is Newton’s second law of motion? How does centripetal force affect circular motion?

  4. Newton’s second law of motion • circular motion • centripetal force • 3 • Newton's Second Law

  5. 3 Newton's Second Law What makes it go? Look at the photo at the beginning of the lesson. The archer pulls back the string and takes aim. When she releases the string, the arrow soars through the air. To reach the target, the arrow must quickly reach a high speed. How is it able to move so fast? The force from the string determines the arrow’s speed.

  6. 3 Newton's Second Law

  7. When an object’s speed increases, the object accelerates. 3 Newton's Second Law Agree. An object accelerates when it experiences a change in speed, direction, or both.

  8. If an object’s mass increases, its acceleration also increases if the net force acting on the object stays the same. 3 Newton's Second Law Disagree. Assuming the net force on an object is constant, if the mass of the object increases, its acceleration decreases.

  9. What is Newton’s second law of motion? 3 Newton's Second Law According to Newton’s second law of motion, an object’s acceleration is the net force on the object divided by its mass.

  10. How does centripetal force affect circular motion? 3 Newton's Second Law In circular motion, a centripetal force pulls an object toward the center of the curve.
