  2. Researched magazine I have researched the music magazine NME, I have looked at what the magazine looked years ago, in the 1970’s the magazine was similar to a newspaper , the magazine was in black and white, because coloured ink was unavailable. In the late 1970’s-1980s, started adding red to their music magazine. Todays magazines, are full of bright colours, to catch the audiences eye

  3. My target audience Typical buyer • My music magazine will be aimed at teenagers (15-20). They would probably have spare change to buy the magazine for £2.99 • My magazine is mainly for girls but not just aimed at one particular sex, my magazine is about mainly new artist, hopefully my magazine will be appealing to both sexes. Bio Name: Sinead Age: 17 Occupation: part time student, works at a fish and shop on weekends. Education: sixth form Interest: fashion, music and animals Hobbies: singing, writing blogs on tmblr and tweeting.

  4. Pricing I have looked at 2 main music magazines, which are very popular. After researching NME and Q I have looked at the pricing of each, Q magazines they tend to be quite cheap and priced around £1.60, However, the NME Magazine is about more expensive at £2-£2.50 each issue, which would is a decent price for a magazine and my magazine is targeted at the teenage audience and if they have spare change they could buy the magazine as it is affordable.

  5. Mind map Possible magazine names To come up with my magazine title, I thought of everything to do with music, and my favourite was ‘volume’. My ideas for the title of my music magazine would be something catchy and something to do with music itself, this is why I have done a mind map, full of music related words. Looking at music magazine, most of the titles of the magazines are just short snappy titles.

  6. Volume seems really catchy, I feel this would work really well for a music magazine. Final title I have picked for my music magazine is “volume” here are some ways I have interpreted the title using different fonts and colours, using Photoshop and word.

  7. Big image, very appealing Red, white and black colour scheme. White background makes the image stand out Large well-known facial image, to catch attention Bold font, stands out After researching on existing magazine covers, I have found out that generally most of the music magazines contain bold, bright titles and fonts. This is so they can catch peoples eyes, and stand out more.

  8. In depth analysis of a front cover This is a music magazine front cover is one of Rolling Stones magazines. It features all the typical conventions a front cover needs, a main title, a well known celebrity, Zac Efron. Rolling Stone is an American magazine published every two weeks which is devoted to music, liberal politics, and popular culture. the magazine changed its format to appeal to a younger readership interested in youth-oriented television shows, film actors, and popular music.

  9. Colours and theme I loved the colours on both of these magazines as they are both, bold and bright which attracts the eye. It makes the headlines and logos stand out. For my theme i am going to use red, yellow and black, I feel it would stand out to the public because the colours.

  10. Final front cover Logo I have used yellow, red and white as the colour theme and have also stuck to three different fonts only. I have also added a date, website, issue number and price to my magazine as this is what most music magazines include. Magazines slogan, “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe” However, this slogan links in with my logo “VOLUME” which is sound. Magazine content Barcode, issue number, date and price. More magazine content

  11. Main Headline The headline colours also always link in with the theme of the magazine, For my main headline I am going to use white because my picture is so dark and the white will really stand out. The headline I am using is: “LAWSON performed live for the first time” This is what my final headline looks like.

  12. Here are three different contents pages from various magazines I have found. As you can see most of the magazines include a large image centred to draw the eye. They all include the issue number and date at the header of the page.

  13. I added this to the top strip as it gives all the vital information about the magazine. Contents page Page numbers Images related to the article

  14. Existing double page spread I also like this double page, there is a big imagine, they are looking directly at the camera. i really like this double page spread, its black and white and the “L” is in bright red and really stands out. Here are two double page spreads I think are really effective, both of them include a large image of a music artist.

  15. My double page spread Text in columns, like most music magazines, working around the quotes. Two main Images, taken by me. The wanted logo 10 Plain black background Questions asked my me, and answers by them. Page number

  16. My final outcome

  17. IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MAGAZINE USE DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE EXISTING FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF EXISTING MUSIC MAGAZINES? For this particular module, as a class we were given the task to produce a music magazine. We were to produce a front cover, contents page and also a double page spread, of which are all included in existing music magazines. On my front cover I used logo/title of my magazine, the price, which is £2.50, barcode, slogan, big image taken by me and what is going to be in the magazine, which is on existing magazines. storylines and articles. • My contents page includes page numbers, images relevant to articles, logo/title, Here is my final outcome of the contents page. i got the idea of my template of my contents page from the magazine “in the mix” Throughout producing my double page spread I included a two main images, columned text, logo, page numbers and a plain black background, so the colour of the font will stand out.

  18. HOW DOES YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS • music magazine represents particular social groups by putting articles in my magazine about different artist in the music industry, My I have not concentrated on just one genre. I think this is due to the fact that I like various types of music, I have included the “the most 100 songs downloaded in 2012” which reflects what type music will be included in the magazine. • it includes articles on gigs and concerts which most young adults have or would like to visit. It shows how people of today enjoy having fun, going out and taking photographs of these gigs. • On the other hand, some music magazines of today represent social groups such as emos, rockers and also goths..

  19. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MAGAZINE AND WHY? Music artists that are mentioned within the contents of my music magazine are: This shows how widely spread the genres of music are that are included in my music magazine. Most of the freeview/sky television channels, would ideally distribute or advertise my music magazine and a lot of teenagers watch tv, so I could benefit from that, I the music magazine was advertised on tv. my music magazine. I feel as my magazines target audience is teenagers and town centres and universities should supply my magazine because there are likely where the audience would go the most. Most young adults would go out at the weekend with spare change, to supermarkets or at a own centre, ideally to spend on my magazine at just £2.50, displayed near the tills.

  20. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE I music magazine is targeted at teenagers, in high school and university because young adults over 17-18 years of age have a lot of spare time on their hands which could and would ideally be dedicated to reading a music magazine such as mine. Most teenagers have jobs and I feel if they have spare change then they would hopefully buy my music magazine monthly, it is affordable at £2.50

  21. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE? My theme of yellow, red and white also attracts to my audience. The colours apply to both sexes, These colours were purposely chosen because they stand out. Also attract the audience by the price of the magazine, it is affordable. Address the audience by the short snappy sentences on the front of my magazine, as a lot of teenagers don’t like reading a lot, but hopefully they would read my magazine. Such small and typical aspects such as page numbers being on every page also addresses to my audience as I know with my own experience that I don’t generally read the whole of a music magazine, I just go to the good bits, that I think that would be interesting, that’s why page numbers are important.

  22. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS MAGAZINE? During the production of my music magazine I used various types of technology to take my photographs I used a digital camera; the internet was used to carry out research on existing music magazines and the main technology I used to produce the magazine was Photoshop. • Different tools helped me gain in my work including; the colour replacement tool, magic wand, text tool, image effects and also the different filters were used, it was really hard to use at the start but once you got the hang of it, it was easy. I used paint to make my barcode for my magazine, it was simple to make, just the black lines and changed the thickness of the lines.

  23. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK (SCHOOL MAGAZINE) WHAT DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM STARTING THAT MAGAZINE TO THE COMPLETION OF THE FINAL MAGAZINE? • Looking back on my preliminary task of creating a school magazine I can see the lack of technology and experience in programs on the computer. • I realise now, this limited various techniques and tools I could have used to produce this magazine cover. Since, creating that magazine cover I have learnt how to take images and edit them using various tools such as the magic wand with was one of the main tools I used for most of my imagesand I used various different fonts. • Looking at my finalized music magazine compared to my school magazine, I can see the different in quality, also creativity in my music magazine, not only in producing magazines but taking photographs and also my interest in Media Studies itself has increased.
