    2. Things to remember You have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the examination. It is marked out of 50 and is worth 25% of your overall grade for GCSE History. You have to answer questions 1 and 2. You have a choice between questions 3 and 4. You have a choice between questions 5 and 6.* Take care with spelling, punctuation and grammar. For questions 2-6 you need to give factors and support each factor with information. * Remember there are 2 parts to questions 5 and 6 parts A and B.

    3. Question 1 What can you learn from Source A about the problems people faced when travelling West in the 1840s? (4 marks) A wagon train travelling west in the 1840s

    4. Top tips You make 2 inferences (suggestions) of what the source is telling you and back these up with evidence from the source. Remember you dont need any more than 2!

    5. Question 2 The boxes below show 2 individuals. Choose 1 and explain his importance to the Mormons. Joseph Smith Kirtland, Missouri and Nauvoo in 1823-44 Brigham Young and the resettlement of the Mormons to the Great Salt Lake, 1845-47

    6. You explain the persons importance to the Mormons. You need to identify important aspects of his work. E.g. Joseph Smiths claims of a vision led to followers, founded their religion, built the first temple, set up the Mormons first army. Brigham Youngs role and leadership in moving the Mormons west and his ideas for the Mormons successful settlement in the West.

    7. Question 3 Why did white settlers often find it difficult to understand the culture of the Plains Indians? (12 marks)
