Overview • Data Collection at used automobile auctions • Login • Select year, make, model • Select body style, engine, options, • Enter adds/deducts, mileage, auction price • Aggregation of data into central system at HQ • Send data from handheld to central server via internal modem • Handheld receives updated vehicles file

  3. Login • Enter username & password • User is authenticated against the internal database

  4. Data Entry 1 • Selecting the year limits the available manufacturers in the Make list box • Selecting the Make limits the available models in the Model list box • The overwhelming size of the database required careful selection of the database engine (not Access) and careful database design

  5. Data Entry 2 • Only the available series, engine, & equipment for the particular year/make/model combination is shown • User selects the corresponding series, engine, & equipment

  6. Data Entry 3 • Only the available equipment and/or engine options are shown for the particular year/make/model combination • User selects the equipment/engine options • User selects the condition, mileage, price of the vehicle

  7. Data Aggregation • Only the available equipment and/or engine options are shown for the particular year/make/model combination • User selects the equipment/engine options • User selects the condition, mileage, price of the vehicle

  8. Data Aggregation • During this process, the handheld application also reports its current version of the vehicle database • If a newer version is available In the data server, then the newer version is downloaded into the handheld
