  1. The JARS Weizhi Shaun Chua, Jake Maeder, Ryan Sharp, Aaron Chavers E-BAGS (Electronic Cornhole)

  2. The Game Involves Bean Bags 48”x24” board

  3. Background - EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) - Transmit Antenna - LC tags - Resonant freqeuncy excitation - Mutual coupling - Reader antenna for detection

  4. Our Design - Modify EAS implementation - One antenna for transmit and detection purposes. - LC tags with 8 unique resonant frequencies placed into the bean bags. - Sense voltage change on the antenna.

  5. Our Design (Visual)

  6. Block Diagram

  7. Implementation - Excitation and detection implemented after end of each round. - Antenna used to excite EM waves at 8 discrete freqeuncies (corresponding to the LC tag’s resonant frequency) - Display scores on LCD

  8. Antenna - Simple RLC circuit - L, the inductor coil is the “antenna” - Variable C to tune the resonant frequency,Wo of the circuit - Minimum impedance during Wo, current high, EM field stronger.

  9. Antenna 2 - handwound with wires - PCB trace

  10. Antenna 3 - Operation frequency range: ( MHz range) - Below C are nominal values of C.

  11. Antenna 4 - Implementation of variable capacitor

  12. Antenna 5 -Implementation of variable capacitor 2: If number of free pins are scarce.

  13. Antenna 6 - Detection implementation

  14. Detection Processing - AC to DC converter.

  15. Detection Processing 2 - DC signal captured fed into analog pin of uC. - Use software to do comparison to determine if bag was there or not. - Excitation and detection occurs at the end of each round.

  16. Signal generation - AD 9850 DDS - Possible amplification needed, LM7171

  17. LC Tag - PCB trace L - C soldered onto the pads

  18. Through Hole

  19. Risk Mitigation - If one loop antenna is not efficient enough, then we will use multiple loop antennas to cover the entire area of the board. - Mux/ demux : TS3A5017 4-1 mux

  20. Risk Mitigation 2

  21. Milestones - LC antenna and LC tag build. - Signal generation. - AC to DC converter. - Software.
