  1. Antimicrobial Packaging Packaging is the science, art, and technology of packaging or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of designing, evaluating, and manufacturing packaging. Food or consumption items have to be well packaged and delivered. Other than that, a package is extremely important for the product’s FMOT. That First Moment of Truth (FMOT) — or the first 3 to 7 seconds in which a potential customer encounters your product on a store shelf — is critical. The right packaging will not only catch the eye of consumers but will also differentiate your product from your competitors. A strong package will also act as a marketing tool, telling the consumer what your brand is all about. With that let’s read about a type of packaging called antimicrobial packaging. What is antimicrobial packaging? Antibacterial food packaging is a form of packaging that can kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the packaged product, thereby extending the shelf life of perishable food and improving food safety standards. Increasing consumer health awareness is a key factor in encouraging companies to experiment with packaging materials and improve safety standards. The demand for packaged foods and ready-to-eat foods from all over the world, especially emerging countries, is increasing significantly. This demand will create growth opportunities for participants in the global antimicrobial packaging market. Types of antimicrobial packaging:  The combination of silver nanoparticles and bacterial cellulose It has excellent water retention and mechanical properties. With the help of this material, the researchers were able to preserve the tomatoes for about 30 days without any microbial spoilage.  Bio-based plastics A team of researchers at Süleyman Demirel University in Kazakhstan recently produced a packaging film consisting of an antibacterial and antioxidant inner layer made of chitosan (CH). The outer layer is made of polycaprolactone (PCL) to provide better mechanical and

  2. barrier properties. This bio-layer film can produce bio-based flexible packaging materials with sufficient mechanical and barrier properties. Packaging coated with nanotubes for the prevention of microbial growth A group of scientists recently developed a packaging film coated with clay nanotubes containing antibacterial essential oils. This film can provide a double impact, can prevent overripe and microbial growth, thereby improving the shelf life of packaged food.
