  2. Vision Statement McDonald’s vision is to be the best restaurant experience… by far! To be people-focused and customer driven… passionately! And to inspire people with our can-do attitude… Always!

  3. Whistle Stop 33 years • First restaurant opened in Woolwich, SE London October 1974. • 1000th restaurant opened at The Dome Greenwich 1999. • By the end of 2007 there were over 1,100 restaurants in the UK.

Fast Facts • McDonald’s represents a total investment in property and equipment of over £1.7 billion. • The Company employs over 67,000 people with around 30,000 of these employed by McDonald’s franchisees. • McDonald’s is the biggest creator of first-time job opportunities and the biggest employer of under 24 yr olds in the UK!

  8. Food • McDonald’s serves food and beverages to over 2 million people in the UK every day. • McDonald’s menu concentrates on five main ingredients: beef, chicken, bread, potatoes and milk.

Food Quality • To us, food quality begins at the very first link in the supply chain. • We have a highly trained team of professionals who work with our supplier partners to ensure that all of our raw ingredients meet exacting specifications. • We have a preference to source locally and last year more than 17,000 British and Irish farmers helped us to do just that!

  10. Rainforest Alliance Coffee • All McDonald’s coffee in the UK comes from farms certified by the Rainforest Alliance. • McDonald’s coffee is 100% Arabica coffee beans grown on certified farms in Brazil, Columbia and Central America. • Farms workers, wildlife and the environment all benefit.

  11. RSPCA • In 2005 we were awarded an RSPCA 'Alternative Award' for our commitment to improving animal welfare in the 'fast food' category.

  12. Franchising • Globally, 70% of restaurants are owned and operated by franchisees. There is now a significant shift towards franchising • McDonald’s franchises cost from £150,000 upwards. • McDonald’s only franchises to ‘hands-on’ individuals – not to absentee investors, partnerships or other companies.

RMHC • Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent registered charity. • RMHC provides home away from home accommodation for families of children requiring in-patient care. • There are 38 RMHC Houses and Family Rooms at children’s hospitals and hospices throughout the UK. • RMHC has raised over £28 Million since it started in 1989

  14. Community Initiatives • Litter McDonald’s has supported the Tidy Britain Group Annual Spring Clean activities and has set up it’s own company ‘Just Bin It’ through local community clean-up partnerships. In 2007, there were 250 events involving 18,000 people.

Community Initiatives • Football • McDonald’s is a major sponsor of international football, including the World Cup since 1994. • Since 2002, McDonald’s appointed Sir Geoff Hurst as its Director of Football. - Since 2002 McDonald’s has been a community partner with the four home football unions, to develop football at grass roots. The scheme has created 12,500 new community-based coaches for young players.

  16. Community Initiatives • Work Experience In 2007, 2,700 students used McDonald’s Restaurants and offices as placed for work experience following a structured work experience programme and work-related learning and enterprise initiatives and challenges.

  17. “If you wanted to design a vocational skills provider to provide good work experience and wider employability skills with transferability across all sectors … then it would be hard to match a McDonald’s for its offer to staff.” Compiled from research with more than 16,000 graduates, McDonald’s have been voted amongst the Top-100 graduate employers every year since the Times’ list was first published in 1999. “The Top-50 Places Where Women Want to Work is a celebration of the UK's most progressive employers.” McDonald’s are listed in this Top-50 survey which was published in October 2006. “McDonald’s met all ten indicators of the Standard. They exceeded the Standard in seven, and they significantly exceeded it in three. For People Management, they were awarded World Class status.” “In short, the McDonald’s staff are very happy at work. They value their training, how they are managed, and their working environment. They are positive about themselves and the company they work for.” “Enjoying work is a privilege that not everybody achieves. Within these pages we present some of the best companies that enable people to do so.” McDonald’s are listed in the Top-50 of this Top-100 survey which was published in September 2006.
