  5. How do we achieve mental holiness? • Philippians 4:4-9 • V. 4, rejoice always

  6. Be positive • It sets the tone for the things we will think. • It is a choice not dependent on circumstances. • Philippians 1:12-14, 18-19; 2:17-18

  7. Be positive • Negative attitudes breed sin • Instead of gratitude, envy and covetousness • Instead of hope, questioning our calling • Instead of resolve, depression

  9. Be anxious for nothing • Anxious – take thought • Carrying burdensome thoughts • Prayer is not just a time for thanksgiving and praise • cf. 1 Peter 5:7

  10. Be anxious for nothing • Matthew 6:25-26, 31-34 • Anxiety shows a lack of faith in God. • We can’t put the kingdom first if our hearts are filled with anxiety and fear.

  11. Be anxious for nothing • V. 7, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. • Lay down our burdens at god’s feet. • Seek his help in clearing our heads of doubt, anxiety and ungodliness

  12. How do we achieve mental holiness? • Philippians 4:4-9 • V. 4, rejoice always • V. 6-7, be anxious for nothing • V. 8, meditate on these things

  14. Work on our minds. • Philippians 4:9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. • Can I think on this in the name of the Lord? • Will this feed my spirit or my flesh? • Where will this thought lead me next? • Does this support my claim to godliness? • What if my family and brethren could see this thought?
