  3. Panther Pathways Panther Pathways is a required course for all 8th grade students. The class focuses on career exploration and planning, health, and technology applications. Students prepare their 4 year plan and make course selections for high school through Career Cruising software during the spring semester.

  4. MHS Endorsement Plan(28 credits) • 4 English • 4 Math (Algebra 1– 1.0) • 4 Science • 4 Social Studies • 2 Foreign Language (Spanish 1 – 1.0) • 1 PE/Athletic class • 1 Fine Art • 6 Electives Local Requirements • 1 CTE Course (PIT – 1.0, Intro to Ag – 1.0, GTT - .5) • .5 Speech • .5 Health

  5. REQUIRED COURSES • Choose 1 from each of the following areas: Social StudiesScience __ US History ____ Science ______Pre-AP History ____ Pre-AP Science English/Language Arts Mathematics (need teacher initials) ____ English _____ Math ____ Pre-AP English _____ Pre-AP Math _____ Pre-AP Alg 1

  6. If you decide to take a Pre-AP class, it will involve a heavy homework load and more challenging course material. ___PRE-AP ENGLISH ___PRE-AP SCIENCE ___PRE-AP HISTORY ___PRE-AP MATH ___PRE-AP ALGEBRA 1

Pre-AP Class Requirements Pre-AP 8th Grade Math • Uses the 8th grade curriculum • More in-depth & rigorous • Entry into course is based on MSTAR screener, STAAR scores, grades, and teacher recommendation • 7th Grade Pre-AP Math is NOT a pre-requisite Pre-AP Algebra 1 • High school credit • Students will take Algebra 1 EOC • Entry into course is based on grades in Pre-AP Pre-Algebra, MSTAR screener, STAAR scores, the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test, and teacher recommendation Pre-AP English • Summer Reading required (to be determined) • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Night by Elie Wiesel will be read together as a class later in the year Pre-AP History • Independent work required outside of class (critical thinking& in-depth analysis) • History Fair participation is optional Pre-AP Science • Writing assignments required • High Level Math Skills required • Science Fair participation is optional

  8. Three Elective Courses • You may choose athletics or a physical education class, but it is NOT required unless you delayed your middle school requirement of one PE course in 7th grade. • A remediation class for math and/or reading will replace elective(s) if STAAR standard is not met. (INSIGHTS MATH or INSIGHTS READING)

  9. Electives • Indicate the order of preference for your elective classes by numbering them 1-2-3-4-5. • Your top 3 choices will be placed in your schedule. • However, be happy with 4 and 5 because they might end up in your schedule.

PALS For those students interested in PALS, there will be informational meetings on the following days:WHEN: Monday, Feb. 29th, and Wednesday, Mar. 2ndWHERE: MMS LibraryThe meetings will be held the last 10 minutes of each lunch period on both days.*STUDENTS MUST ATTEND ONE OF THE MEETINGS – Applications will be handed out at the end of the meeting. Stay tuned to KMTV for more information on application due dates.
