  1. Nepali Musical Instruments Music is an important part of the culture and heritage of any land. A number of things can be figured out about the place when we look at the musical history of that place. Nepal is one such land of rich culture and heritage. While Nepali handicrafts are popular around the world, Nepali music instruments are also capturing the eye of music lovers around the world. There are many Nepali Music Instruments played and enjoyed in Nepal since the old days. But there are certain instruments that behave enjoyed more popularity in the nepali culture and the Nepali communities around the world. Let us look briefly into some of these Nepali musical instruments. 1.Madal: This is one of the most popular Nepali musical instruments that are famous in almost all the local communities and groups. A Madal is shaped like a hollow

  2. cylinder and both the sides of the cylinder shape are covered with skin. The Madal is hung around the waist and it is played from both sides. 2. Bansuri: It is one of the most popular wind instruments used in many South Asian communities. Nepalese too use this instrument widely. The instrument is shaped like a hollow bamboo stick with different holes on its body. The holes help in producing different sounds when you blow wind into the hollow body by placing it around your mouth. 3. Tyamko: We have all seen a drum beating around the streets every now ad then. A Tyamko is a Nepali Musical instrument that is shaped like a drum and it is beaten with two sticks on both sides to produce sound. These drum-like instruments are very famous in all parts of Nepali culture and form an integral part of Nepali handicrafts. 4. Sarangi: A sarangi is famous in many south Asian cultures. But in the Nepali communities, it is a musical instrument used most widely by the Gandharvas. It has a wooden bosy with four strings attached to it. The strings are struck with hands to produce musical notes from the sarangi. 5. Nagara: It is a huge drum covered with skin all over it. Two sticks are banged against the surface of the kettledrum-shaped instrument which results in the production of sound. Nepal has a rich history of music and thus the Nepali musical instruments form an important part of Nepali heritage, culture and Nepali handicrafts. These musical instruments are still used widely across the rural regions of Nepal and the contemporary musicians in Nepal still use some of these instruments.
