T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) INTRODUCTION OF THE COMPANY • NAME: QICT (QASIM INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER TERMINAL) – DP WORLD • LOCATION: Berths # 5, 6, 7 Marginal Wharves Port Qasim Karachi • EMPLOYEE STRENGTH: 3,000 approx. (Includes permanent, contractual and third Party) 700 – 1000 belongs to management where as others are labor. • CONTACT PERSON: Humayun Nazir (G.M HR & Admin)

T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT AT DP WORLD • DP WORLD KARACHI believes in its human resources, considers them valuable assets and continuously strives for their development through training in order to prepare / motivate them to perform their job up to the required standards and cope up with the future challenges and grow with the organization. • In order to achieve outstanding results, skills audit / training needs analysis is conducted so that employee’s so that employee’s knowledge skills and abilities can be assessed professionally. Training and development opportunity is equally available to all employees keeping in their job responsibilities which include in-house domestic and foreign training whichever deemed necessary.

  5. T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS At DP world the emphasis is given on imparting training to all employees. The company has set up a fully equipped training center. Every employee has to undergo induction and safety training; this applies to contractor’s employee also. In addition several in house training programs are conducted by company which includes. INDUCTION TRAINING • Basic first aid course (compulsory) • Basic fire fighting course (compulsory) • Psychology of safety course. (Compulsory) • General safety hand book course (Compulsory) • Emergency response plan course (Compulsory) • Safety intervention course (As applicable) • Fatal 7

T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) EQUIPMENT RELATED TRAINING • QC training • RTG training • RS training • EH training • The minimum standards to which equipment operators will be trained are to completely safety and productively operate the equipment. • All equipment operators will hold the appropriate license to operate particular piece of equipment with such license being issued by DP world or as required by Govt. legislation. • Equipment operators must have their license with them at all times when operating equipment. The company will keep records of license held by individual equipment operators. • Clerical training will be carried out (as identified in the training plan) with particulars focus on customer’s skills, telephone skills, computer keyboard skills etc. • Keeping in view the training needs, training are normally recommended by HOD’s in their respective staffs annual performance assessment reports, based on the CEO and employee are sent to the institutions by the HR department accordingly

  7. T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) FOREIGN TRAINING • Regional office invited nomination from every terminal’s CEO for foreign training being conducted by DP world institute every year. The HR department in liaison with HOD’s sends the consolidated nominations to the CEO for his final selection. • Potential employees may be sent to any other foreign training keeping in view the training needs / career development and succession planning to groom them for upcoming challenges. • All contractors employee are required to undergo the specified QHSE&T training before starting work at the terminal.

T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) TRAINERS AND TRAINING ASSESSORS. • In-house trainers will be selected on the basis of: • Experience and knowledge • Willingness to accept challenges • A real desire and commitment • Ability to interact favorably with others • Understand of management requirements • Administrative ability TRAINING ATTENDANCE • HOD’s are required to make the nominated person available to attend training programs whether in-house or external. Attendance will be recorded accordingly.

  9. T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) EMPLOYEE FEEDBACK ON TRAINING. • Company expects to have employee’s feedback once an employee has completed his/her training especially outside / foreign training. It is also anticipated that on acquiring training employee will contribute positively towards professionalism, introduction of new techniques, making a process easier and achievements in terms of tangible and intangible gain. • This helps them in assessing the worth of training and in making decision whether an employee should be nominated in future or not.

  10. T&D – QICT (DP WORLD) SAFETY MANDATORY COURSES • Management gives utmost priority and importance to the safety & health care of its employees. In order to meet the requirements of all the safety policies, guidelines and procedures and making DP world safe and healthy working environment, our QHSE&T department conducts safety mandatory courses for new inductees as per monthly schedule, so that they can better perform their duty at the terminal with all safety standards in letter and spirit.

RECOMMENDATIONS. • Site induction procedures • Training for the tie-down procedures for high winds • Simulated training sites for the new comers. • The DP World is in dire need of a few of Fish Philosophy strategies. The employees need to add a little bit of playful attitude to their work; this will help in giving off a positive vibe to one another and will help in increasing harmony at work. Working in a positive mode brings out more creativity in a person. Another strategy of Fish Philosophy that they should adopt is ‘’ be there, be fully focused’’.  As their main target and focus is on the safety and security of one another, this will only develop if they are fully focused and are there for each other. They should listen carefully and understand the underlying reason behind it rather than just listening for the sake of it. Once they start applying this strategy, it will help them in reducing the chances of accident that may occur. It is highly recommended to adopt these strategies to help them in better productivity, being in a happy atmosphere and be more focused, which will reduce the chances of accident.
