  2. Stress and Over Reactive Parents • High levels of stress have been shown to result in the use of over reactivity in the discipline practices of the parents. Over reactivity is a characteristic authoritarian parenting style.

Adult Drug Use and Parenting • Adults are more likely to develop habits involving illicit s substances during the emerging adult years. • Drug use has been found to increase the possibility of premarital pregnancy. • Parents who use drugs are likely to be less involved in the lives of their children. These parents are more likely to present characteristics of a neglectful parenting style.
