  2. question: Are Gaon, Garib and KisanIndependent? Are they independent in real terms on the following parameters? Financial Independence Healthcare and Sanitation Access to safe Drinking Water Consistent source of Livelihood Access to quality Education Peace of mind and Self Respect If we listen their heart the….. answer would be ? NO Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  3. solution: 3dDevelopment with long term horizon Development that have an impact on today and tomorrow The objective is to catalyze integrated development covering: Habitat Sanitation Drinking Water Livelihood Education Self Respect through independence Habitat would be the nucleus of the proposed development Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  4. From the people “Our forefathers taught us to live in consonance with nature, its forests, mountains, animals and birds. Maybe I don’t know or understand enough, but our lives are guided by this philosophy. Today, the media – television, radio, newspapers – and the dazzling consumer goods available in the market are changing our lives. We would also like to live in beautiful houses, like those in the cities, but we are caught in a trap. Our traditions, our lack of education and our limited means of livelihood hold us back. Our experience tells us that the goods that come to the market from outside can be bought with money. But we have always bartered goods among ourselves to meet our needs. We have never had much use for money. A lot has changed, some for good, some for bad. I don’t know whether we are on the right path or not” A villager from Bade Kilepal, Bastanar Block, Bastar Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  5. House is a catalyst for change in socio-cultural pattern and other characteristics of human life, including economic development, since it forms a nucleus for the operations of many human activities and is an essential contributory factor for improvement in life as it provides a sense of stability, dignity, economic security and confidence. Housing is one of the five major elements of social and economic infrastructure, critical to the quality of life in rural areas, along-with health, education, drinking water and roads. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  6. For a shelter less person, possession of a house brings about a profound social change in his existence, endowing him with an identity, thus integrating him with his immediate social milieu. House is a Dream which seldom materializes into reality for reasons obvious… and obviously beyond People’s control. “None will share the dream for own Pucca House as who doesn’t fears to be labeled as day dreamer” Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  7. The project aims to provide ‘Debt Free’ homeownership to the Rural people and, through homeownership, to provide a higher degree of social security and an overall improvement in the “quality of life” of the families involved. Shikhar believes that Rural people, if provided with a supportive environment, can help themselves and play a major role in the design, construction and management of their housing. Therefore, a variety of self-help strategies shall be undertaken. Also, the cost of housing can be reduced if some of the elements of construction, which are within the capacity of the Rural people, are left to self-help energies of the Rural people themselves. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  8. Shikhar believes in following strategies to enhance the value of the development: • First of it’s kind “Public Private People Partnership” for Social Cause. • Building Bridge for development: • With our affiliated NGOs, we will ensure 3D development of the villages covered. • The project will provide Debt Free Habitat for the Rural Chhattisgarhi • Holistic development incorporating all the crucial aspects having an impact on life including: • Habitat • Sanitation • Drinking Water • Livelihood • Education Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  9. Shifting Focus from low cost housing to following parameters: • Utility • Durability • Quality • Modularity • Productivity • Allocating “large” house-and-garden plots: • The same will can be potentially useful for important non-housing benefits including nutrition source, fuel wood, animal husbandry, economic activities such as post-harvest activities and storage • Green Development: • The development activities shall take the environment impact in account. • Adequate open space for sports and playground use. • Adequate Community Centre for primary education, religious activities and community gatherings etc. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  10. Observation of Planning Commission: “Ownership of even a small plot of land enables a family to raise its income, improve its nutritional status, have access to credit facilities and lead a more dignified life. Studies of economies of scale in farm operations show that modern agricultural technology is scale neutral in the case of a majority of food and cereal crops which the poor tend to grow. Horticulture, floriculture and vegetable cultivation on small plots of land, including homestead land, have proved beneficial for the poor. Agricultural laborers, therefore, need to be provided access to land to improve their economic and social well-being.” Section 3.2.71. (10th Five Year Plan) Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  11. Observation of Planning Commission: “Access to even small pieces of land which may not be sufficient for providing income to a family for subsistence can significantly reduce poverty and food insecurity by providing an essential component in a diversified livelihood system.” Section 3.2.57 (10th Five Year Plan) Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  12. Allocating Large House Plots (3000-5000 sq ft) to villagers, specially non farmer / agricultural labour landless families, can potentially result in: Improved Social Status Improved Nutritional quotient Increase in income Easy and secured access to credit Improved bargaining power / wages for those who live on landlord’s land Substantial increase in asset portfolio scope for improved extension Rural development and poverty alleviation as Land access is an important component of the same. Non-housing benefits as a source of nutrition, fuel wood, or income. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  13. House on large Plot can Benefit the Rural Landless in the following possible ways: To raise animals (Animal Husbandry). Growing Vegetables and Fruits. Mushroom cultivation, Broom making, Agarbatti making, For other economic activities such as post-harvest activities, storage, or non-agricultural work including commercial / semi commercial activities. Making non-housing improvements to the homestead plot to increase its use and market value. Rooftop can be gainfully utilised for income generating activities like for drying agriculture and forest produce. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  14. Nutrition: Well-developed house-and-garden plots can potentially produce enough for families to consume: More than the recommended daily amount of vegetables. More than the average rural intake of milk and fruits. Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  15. Income: Produce additional income from selling plant products, surplus dairy, wood and timber, and animals. In an essentially low surplus economy, the money required for farming, daily expenses, healthcare, festive occasions and emergencies, is inevitably in excess of what is available. Villagers resort to informal credit for farming or further a livelihood option or to meet their expenses carrying high risk of falling into debt trap. Most villagers often end up taking more credit from private sources, which only compounds their debt with low hope of recovery. Poor families find access to cheap finance due to improved creditworthiness and ownership (secure legal rights) of mortgage able assets. Forest produce processing units owned by cooperatives of the Villagers. Also to facilitate marketing and sales Change today to lead the change tomorrow

  16. Social Aspect: The potential impact on social milieu is as follows: Benefits accrues especially to women and children. Will improve the Human Development Index considerably Will improve social bonding on demonstration of Urban participation in the rural upliftment as well as due to joint effort among the Villagers themselves.
