  2. Project Specification This project will investigate if it is possible to model the heterchoronic process at a genetic level using evolved affinities. A simple gene regulatory model will be created whose genes encode temporal regulatory information. A genetic algorithm will determine configuration of the genome and the protein affinities/interaction. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  3. Progress to Date Creation of models of GA and GRN using Java. The GA evolves the genome and places it into the GRN for development. Using an affinity matrix the GRN allows the genes to transcribe proteins, with a concentration calculated by a threshold function. Using the above tools a single cell model was developed with a fitness function which allows the evolution of individuals based on protein concentration. 4. Results The following results were obtained using the configuration data below. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  5. Results - Linear Conc. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  6. Results - Flat Conc. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  7. Results - Saw Conc. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  8. Remaining Work Expand the current simple regulatory model to allow for multicellular development and include methods for inter-cellular signalling. Modify the GRN to include aspects of protein rate, duration, and onset using the AM. Demonstrate temporal regulation at a multicellular level. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  9. Multicellular Development Cells will divide based on the concentrations of the proteins that have been transcribed. Two types of cell division – symmetric or asymmetric. Each new cell will contain a copy of the genome. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report

  10. Temporal Regulation Temporal regulation allows us to controls for protein rate, duration and onset. Affinity Based Model of Temporal Regulation – Progress Report
