  1. “Peanut butter prices skyrocketing”

  2. Trick-or-treaters might want to hold on to those Reese's Cups this Halloween as sharp increases in peanut butter prices have begun going into effect following one of the worst peanut harvests in decades. Americans spend almost $800 million on peanut butter and consume an average of more than six pounds of peanut products each year. Planters brand peanut butter will increase its price by 40% starting Monday, while ConAgra has already instituted increases of more than 20% for its Peter Pan brand. Jif will introduce price hikes of around 30% starting Tuesday. Peanuts usually get harvested in the fall, around September and October. Analysts attribute this drop in harvest to the intense heat and drought that hit the southern U.S. this year, as well as to high prices for other crops that led farmers to focus their efforts elsewhere.

  3. In Other News Being happy doesn't just improve the quality of your life. According to a new study, it may increase the quantity of your life as well. Older people were up to 35% less likely to die during the five-year study if they reported feeling happy, excited, and content on a typical day. And this was true even though the researchers took factors such as chronic health problems, depression, and financial security out of the equation. – BE HAPPY! As we enter the final months of 2011, the thoughts of tech watchers like me are turning to what we can expect in 2012. Voice recognition in all our devices? Touch control replacing the mouse and keyboard? The death of the wallet as mobile payments become mainstream? Maybe. But what I'm most excited about is something far more audacious: flexible screens. Expecting this much-anticipated technology to become widely available in 2012 is optimistic but not unthinkable. Last week, Nokia demoed a mindblowing prototype handheld device that lets you bend and twist the screen to complete actions like scrolling and zooming.
