  2. What does it mean to be a Title 1 School? The federal government has put the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in place in an effort to level the playing field in order for all students to be successful.

  3. Benefits of Being a Title I School Additional Federal Funding allows for: • Additional Classroom Resources • Math Instructional Lead Teacher • Literacy Instructional Lead Teachers – Hiring of new LILT • Teaching Resources for Teachers and Students • Parent Resource Room • Parental Involvement Activities

  4. Title 1 Budget Provides: • Math Instructional Lead Teacher (MILT – Math Coach) – Ms. Evans • Literacy Instructional Lead Teacher (LILT – Literacy Coach) – Mr. Ausmore • Literacy Instructional Lead Teacher (to be hired) • Parent Involvement – Ms. Clark • Title 1 Tutors (Certified Teachers)

  5. Title 1 Budget Provides: • Books and materials for both students and teachers. • Subscriptions to Online Services • 1% is used for Parent Involvement • Items in the Parent Resource Room that can be used at home. • Parent workshops • Translators for Family Nights

  6. Highly Qualified Teachers, Paraprofessionals & Administrators • All of the employees at OKE are Fully Certified • Parent Right to Know - You may request the credentials of the employees in writing, if necessary.

  7. CCRPI College and Career Ready Performance Index • a comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia. • provides a score between 0-100 for each school • that score measures how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career.

  10. What is the Title I Parent and Family Engagement Plan? This is a plan that describes how OKE will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. • Family Nights (Curriculum, Reading, Math, Multicultural, Science & Test Prep) • Parent Resource Room • Support Programs for Students • Communication: newsletters, agendas, conferences, website, marquee, email, homework folders and special announcements.

Parent and Family Engagement Plan • Draft – Parent and Family Engagement Plan was presented at the OKE Parent Input Meeting on July 27, 2017. • The Revised Parent Involvement Plan is available tonight. All parents will receive a copy of the Parent and Family Engagement Plan in the new 2017-18 Parent and Family Engagement Handbook.

  12. What is the Title 1 School Parent Compact? This describes how the students, parents, and school will WORK TOGETHER to do everything possible to ensure STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS!

School Parent Compact • Copies of the Revised School Parent Compact are available tonight, upon request. • Final compacts will be included in the 2017-18 Parent and Family Engagement Handbook. • We are required to a have a signed Revised Parent and Family Engagement Plan and School Parent Compact for EVERY student in the school. This acknowledgement form can be found in the Parent and Family Engagement Handbook.

How can parents be involved in the learning community of OKE? • Attend OWLS Conferences • Join PTO • Join School Council • Help with the Mentor Program • Attend Family Nights and Parent Workshops • Complete surveys • Volunteer for PTO events • Technology Acknowledgments Completed (3rd – 5th grade)

  16. How can parents give their input about the Parent and Family Engagement Plan, School Parent Compact and Title 1 Budget? • Input is welcome throughout the year by contacting Stacey Clark, Parent Involvement Professional • Attend the Parent Input Meeting in May

Building Staff Capacity • Oakland will educate teachers and all staff, with the assistance of its parents, in the value of contributions of parents, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, building a strong relationship between parents and the school.

  18. What can I do to ensure success for my child? • Check your child’s agenda each day. • Communicate with your child’s teachers regularly. • Be available to help your child with his/her homework. • Read with your child at least 20 minutes a day • Read all information that may come home from the school.

What Assessments will my child take this year? • GA Milestones (EOGs)–grades 3 – 5 • GKIDS – kindergarten • MAP Assessments – Reading (All Grades), Math (All Grades), Language and Science (Grades 2-5) • Write Score Writing Assessment – Grades 2 – 5 • Curriculum Assessments: Pre-, Formative, Post

  24. OKE Continuous Improvement Plan Academic Goals – Final • Vocabulary: On the first semester District Vocabulary Assessment, 65% of OKE students will perform at a grade of 75% or above. By May 2018, at least 75% of OKE students will score at or above 75% on the District Vocabulary Assessment. • Reading: Sixty-five percent (65%) of students in grades 3-5 will demonstrate performance at the Developing or higher range on the GA Milestones Assessment.
