  4. *CALL TO WORSHIP AND INVOCATION L: Sons and daughters of the Living God, let us come into God’s presence with glad and generous hearts. P: We come this day to worship and praise the God who gives us all we need.

  5. L: The early church spent much time together, praising God and sharing kindness with all. P: Today we will break bread and study God’s work, like the early church.

  6. L: When the believers did all this, “awe came upon everyone.” P: May God’s awe fill us today. • L: May we experience God’s Spirit of kindness and sharing. • P: May we receive and unleash God’s Spirit!

  10. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION(unison) Powerful, giving and forgiving God, as we stand before your greatness this day, we are sorry. We are sorry that we have received so much kindness and joy,

  11. and so many good gifts from you, and yet we don’t return the favor to those around us. Some days we greet others with a grunt or a frown, or a miserable spirit; other days we hoard and hide the

  12. many blessings we have from those around us. Please forgive us, Merciful, Joyful God. Open our hearts to the caring, giving spirits of Ruth and the early church. Cleanse and heal our spirits so we

  13. can be your people in this world. (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)

  14. ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Sisters and brothers, God is good; God is merciful and God joyfully forgives each of you. Receive that forgiveness and live life in the kingdom. P: Thanks be to our good and merciful God! Amen.

  17. Then she started to return with her daughters-in-law from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had had consideration for his people and given them food. So she set out from the place where she had been living, she andher two daughters-in-law, and they

  18. went on their way to go back to the land of Judah. But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, ‘Go back each of you to your mother’s house. May the Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me. The Lord grant that you mayfind security,

  19. each of you in the house of your husband.’ Then she kissed them, and they wept aloud. They said to her, ‘No, we will return with you to your people.’ But Naomi said, ‘Turn back, my daughters, why will you go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb that theymay become yourhusbands?

  20. Turn back, my daughters, go your way, for I am too old to have a husband. Even if I thought there was hope for me, even if I should have a husband tonight and bear sons, would you then wait until they were grown? Would you then refrain from marrying?No, my daughters,it has been far

  21. more bitter for me than for you, because the hand of the Lord has turned against me.’ Then the wept aloud again. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. So she said, ‘See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after yoursister-in-law.’

  22. But Ruth said, ‘Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die– there will I be buried. May the Lord do thusand so to me, andmore as well,

  23. if even death parts me from you!’ When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more to her.

  24. SCRIPTURE READING: Acts 2:42-47

  25. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things incommon;

  26. they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising Godand having thegoodwill of all thepeople.

  41. *INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE • L: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I invite you to break bread with your sisters and brothers in the Lord.

  43. *THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING L: May the god of Kindness and Sharing be with you. P: And also with you. L: Lift up your hearts. P: We offer them to the One who fills us with thepower of the Spirit. • L: May that Spirit be unleashed today.

  44. P: Amen and amen! L: Holy God, we give you thanks today for your amazing work of creation. You have shared this beautiful world with us so we can enjoy it; you have given us each other to love and to live with. We are grateful for your generosity. Unfortunately, wehaven’t always shared yourgenerous, life-giving love.

  45. But you never stopped calling us or loving us – you called us through your prophets and people like Ruth, you reached out to us through teachers, and your love kept knocking at the door of our hearts. Like Ruth, you go with us wherever we go; younever turn back from us. Sowith your people on earth andall the company of heaven, wepraise your name and join

  46. their unending hymn: P: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of love and hope,heaven and earth are full of your glory and compassion. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

  47. L: We also give thanks for your son, Jesus the Christ. He was kind to all– saints and sinners. He shared all that he had, even his own life. For that we give thanks: • P: Praise to you, Lord Jesus: By dying, you destroyed sin and death; by rising, you offer us resurrection life. Lord Jesus, come again.

  48. L: God of giving and hope, let your Holy Spirit be unleashed and move over us and over these earthly gifts of bread and wine. By our sharing of them may we experience the mystery of true communion of the body and blood of Christ, and may we become one in him.
