  2. Imagery is… • A way for authors to organize details to build a better picture of something. • Sometimes obvious with sensory language or specific word choice. • Sometimes more subtle with connections between something concrete and something unknown or more abstract.

  3. Please, DON’T ever use this statement (or any variation of it) as an explanation for why imagery is effective! • “It is effective imagery because it paints a picture in my head.” • Let us now have a moment of silence for this statement. May it rest in peace forever and never enter our discussions or writings.
