  3. Why are we on social media? • Publicize team news, releases, etc. • Enhance relationship with our users, partners, and funders • Raise profile among potential users • We do not use social media for user support.

  4. The story so far… • August 2012: @openmicroscopyon Twitter. • January 2014: Conscious social media outreach began. • OME joined Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+. • October 2014: The OME Blog published its first post. • January 2015: The OME YouTube channel published its first video.

Current Status: Twitter • Twitter has been our primary social media focus. • Number of followers has nearly tripled (233 to 678) since January 2014. • Average impressions per day up >5x in 12 months • Average engagement rate up from 1.2% to 2.2% in 12 months • Zero paid promotions (Source: Twitter Analytics)

Current Status: Other Platforms • Mid-March 2015: Dropped Google+ • Focusing on growing LinkedIn and Facebook • Daily, differentiated content on the two platforms: • LinkedIn: Job announcements, conferences, webinars (Serious Work Stuff) • Facebook: Pretty pictures, videos, cool blog posts (Goofing Off) • Both: OME news

  12. Next Steps • Continue to produce OME blog and video content • Maintain and increase our Twitter presence • Increase our number of followers on LinkedIn and Facebook • Identify types of posts that generate high user engagement (clicks, likes, shares) and adjust accordingly
