  1. The Fashion Marketshopping online or in store?

  2. Making a documentary • A documentary is a film that can be seen to function as a explorer, advocate or observer • The documentary style observatory was used

  3. Elements of the documentary making • Our documentary was based on the idea that people shop almost everyday either online or in store. • The fashion market is on the rise like never before there are lots of shops online and in store, with new one emerging daily. • We researched questions in relation to the fashion market. • This topic was also of interest because in our group some people felt comfortable shopping online than and going to the sore and vice versa.

  4. Research material • We researched documentary styles for example observational and reflexive. • We looked at different documentaries and discussed how the type of documentary styled used. For example, a London Fashion Week documentary which told us about peoples unique fashion sense through chopped interviews. ( find link) • We researched different types of market to compare the type of film we would be able to achieve.

  5. We also researched different ways of interviewing, for example, journalistic and informal.

  6. Technical approach • We looked at how we could use sound and light in our video working in conjunction with cinematography and misen scene. • We tried out using different microphones to see which had the best sound quality, for example the shotgun on the boom and the clip-on. • We also discussed cinematography in more detail using a moving camera and hand held one to compare results.

  7. We discussed where we wanted our documentary to be filmed and we used multiple location • A specific style of editing to convey information to the audience creating an overall rhythm to our project.

  8. Why we chose this topic • We chose this project because we all connect to it • It is something that has become more prominent with the rapidly increasing digital market and the internet. • We also believe its something that is relevant in our modern world.

  9. Content • Our video contains interviews in which the participant is asked a series of questions regarding their shopping habits. • In addition, it contains shots of people shopping online, demonstrating how easy it is to shop online • Furthermore, it compares both high street and designer stores shoppers. • Finally, our video makes a concluding statement explaining our final viewpoint on the topic discussed.

  10. Evaluation • After completing the documentary, we realised that we could filmed people shopping in the store. • We could have filmed people that were actually shopping other than just students for the interviews. • We could have been more inventive with our shots.

This video talks to people visiting London Fashion Week and asks them about their own fashion tastes. We chose it because it was the topic we wanted to discuss in our own documentary.
