  2. Click a number below to answer a question. (Drag the # behind the trash can so you know which have been used!)

  3. Game Board ANSWER ANSWER ANSWER Water changes its state when... a) humidity increases b) temperature change c) winds blow over any water source d) it completes its cycle B

  4. Game Board ANSWER ANSWER Earth's tilt causes the seasonal changes by determining... a) when the sun rises and sets in a location b) how much sunlight reaches a location at different times of the year c) the temperature of the ocean's surface currents d) the direction in which the winds blow and their strength B

  5. Game Board ANSWER After water evaporates from the Earth and the oceans it... a) warms the globe b) forms a type of greenhouse c) rises into the atmosphere and condenses d) warms the globe C

  6. Game Board ANSWER Large bodies of water can have fairly even temperatures... a) both day and night all year round b) that change regularly with the seasons c) because of the effect of the water cycle d) due to the many currents that flow through them A

  7. Game Board ANSWER After precipitation falls to Earth, it a) changes form b) changes the area's climate c) causes the Earth to tilt slightly d) runs over the surface or sinks into the ground D

  8. Game Board ANSWER The climate of land near the path of an ocean current is... a) affected by the current's temperature b) generally windy and cold c) generally hot and humid d) very rainy A

  9. Certain gases in the atmosphere cause the geenhouse effect when they... Game Board ANSWER a) reflect the sun's heat back into the atmosphere b) mix with other gases and change color c) absorb the sun's heat and warm the Earth d) prevent heat energy from the sun from reaching the Earth C

  10. Because winds carry heat energy and water vapor as the move... Game Board ANSWER a) they can blow in any direction around the globe b) they can change the climate of land they travel over c) the gases in them are always changing form d) they are the chief cause of prevailing winds B

  11. Earth's ball-like shape determines... Game Board ANSWER a) how much of the sun's energy a spot gets b) how many greenhouse gases the air absorbs c) the length of each season d) the flow of ocean currents A

  12. Game Board ANSWER How do volcanic erruptions change the temperature of a nearby area? a) Volcanic ash heats the oxygen and nitrogen in the air b) Volcanic lava is black and absorbs most of the sun's heat energy c) Volcanic matter can reflect the sun's energy back into the atmosphere d) Rain can't penetrate the volcanic cloud to cool the region C

  13. Game Board ANSWER What is global warming? a) rivers of water that move through the ocean b) rain, snow, sleet, hail c) will happen if too many greenhouse gases are added to atmosphere d) a natural event that raises the water temperature near the equator C

  14. Game Board ANSWER What is a humidity? a) the measure of the amount of water vapor in the air. b) the invisible form of water c) a place's temperature d) water that falls onto land and drains into streams A

  15. Game Board ANSWER What is a location's weather conditions over many years? climate

  16. What about the climate can be significantly changed by volcanic eruptions? Game Board ANSWER temperature

  17. Game Board ANSWER What is water vapor? a) to change from a gas to a liquid b) the measure of the amount of water vapor in the air c) the invisible form of water d) a location's weather conditions C

  18. Game Board ANSWER What is water doing when it changes from a gas to a liquid? condensing

  19. Game Board ANSWER What is water that falls onto land and drains into streams and rivers? runoff

  20. Game Board ANSWER What is a place's temperature, precipitation, and other conditions at a certain time called? weather

  21. Game Board ANSWER How can climate differ on each side of mountains?

  22. Game Board ANSWER Describe the changes of water in the water cycle.

  23. Game Board ANSWER Explain how the Earth's shape and tilt impact climate and weather.

  24. Describe how ocean current, global winds, and land impact climate. Game Board ANSWER

  25. Game Board ANSWER Explain how greenhouse gases and natural events impact climate.

  26. Game Board ANSWER How are the effects of volcanic eruptions and those of an El Nino alike and how are they different?

  27. Game Board

  28. Game Board Water vapor rises and cools... condensing into clouds Condenses to the point of precipitation Sun heats water = evaporation water becomes gas (water vapor) In Ocean = Liquid

  29. in the North (Top) in the North (Top) in the South (Bottom) in the South (Bottom) Then you have to look to see if the pole is pointed TOWARDS the sun . . . Game Board . . . or AWAY from the sun.

  30. Game Board How can ocean currents affect climate? currents bring colder or warmer water to the land and thus change the temperature (a warm current bring warm temperatures and a cold current brings cold temperatures) How do global winds affect climate? global winds carry the temperatures/humidity of the lands they pass through and thus bring with them warmer or colder temperatures (warm winds bring warm temperatures and cold winds bring cold temperatures) How does the shape of land affect climate? Changes in elevation effect climate. Higher land has colder less humid temperatures (water vapor condenses by the time it gets that high). Lower land has warmer more humid temperatures.

  31. Game Board Keeps earth the right temperature... too many gases = too hot! Sulferic Acid blocks sun's energy... too little gases = too cold!

  32. Game Board El Nino Volcanic Eruptions • Creates MORE weather changes than volcanic eruptions • affects different parts of Earth • results some damage like loss of crops or famine • Cause lower temperatures in certain areas
