  5. Grumbling About God’s Provision The Bitter Waters at Marah (15:22-27)

  6. Grumbling About God’s Provision The Bitter Waters at Marah (15:22-27) To grumble or murmur means “to express resentment, dissatisfaction, anger and complaint by grumbling in half-muted tones of hostile opposition to God’s leaders and the authority he has vested in them.” This verb is always followed by the preposition “against”

  7. Grumbling About God’s Provision The Bitter Waters at Marah (15:22-27) What should God’s people have been doing? #1 Worshipping (Exodus 3:18; 5:2; 8:27) “we must make a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD” #2 Praying with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6) “let you requests be made known to God with thanksgiving”

  8. Grumbling About God’s Provision The Bitter Waters at Marah (15:22-27) God brings testing times into our lives, not so we will grumble, but that we might trust Him and come to know Him as the God who provides in His time.

  9. Grumbling About God’s Plan Manna and Quail (16:1-36)

  10. Grumbling About God’s Plan Manna and Quail (16:1-36) A key verb in the journey from Egypt to Sinai is “test” which in Hebrew (nasah) means “to prove or put to the test.” At least four times in the journey from Egypt to Sinai this verb is used. It was used back in 15:25 and it will be used again in this incident in 16:4.

  11. Grumbling About God’s Plan Manna and Quail (16:1-36) • Notice how grumbling about God’s leading through God’s leaders is the same as grumbling against God Himself (16:2, 7, 8). • Notice how the past isn’t as bad now as it once was when they were in Egypt. • In the midst of a life of grace there is the need to obey (16:4, 28; John 14:15, 21, 23; 15:10)

  12. Grumbling About God’s Plan Manna and Quail (16:1-36) God brings testing times into our lives, not so we will grumble, but that we might trust Him and come to know Him as the God who providesin His time and according to His plan.

  13. IT’S SUNDAY…BUT MONDAY’S COMIN’! Exodus 15-17

  14. Grumbling About God’s Presence Water from the Rock at Rephidim (17:1-7)

  15. Grumbling About God’s Presence Water from the Rock at Rephidim (17:1-7) Testing God is not the privilege of the believer, He has already proven Himself. God’s reliability is not something that needs to be established at this point in the journey. God’s presence is with them in the daily manna, the pillar of cloud and fire, the words God gives to Moses.

  16. Grumbling About God’s Presence Water from the Rock at Rephidim (17:1-7) “… because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5b) God brings testing times into our lives, not so we will grumble, but that we might trust Him as a God who is presentand come to know Him as the God who provides in His time and according to His Word.

  17. IT’S SUNDAY…BUT MONDAY’S COMIN’! Exodus 15-17

  18. IT’S SUNDAY…BUT MONDAY’S COMIN’! Will you trust God for His provision for you, His plan for you, and His presence with you? Exodus 15-17
