  1. Impacts of WWI By: Andrew Jones

  2. Government Changes • After WWI, Socialism became more popular in the European countries. • Even more popular was the Republic type of government. • Before the war there were 19 Monarchs and 3 Republics in Europe, and after there were 13 Monarchs and 14 Republics and 2 regencies.

  3. Economic Changes • Production of technological advances skyrocketed. • The use of machinery to do tasks humans would normally have to do, and the newly made 8 hour work day gave a boost to the economy. • Europe had major dept after the war. Owing its allies as much as $10 billion. • They rapidly printed money to try to fix this problem. This subjected them to a time of inflation.

  4. Physiological Effect • People lost their trust in political leaders and government officials. • People were wondering why the war was fought at all. • People no longer thought that the government could serve the best interests of the people. • A grim acceptance of reality replaced the optimistic dreams of their ancestors.

  5. Espionage Act of 1917 • Was a law passed in America June 15, 1917. • It prohibited and attempt to interfere with military operations, to support US enemies during war time, to promote insubordination during war time, or to interfere with recruitment. • The Act is still being changed to this day.

  6. Treaty of Versailles • France thought that the restrictions were to lenient. • A lot of Americans strongly apposed the treaty, saying it favored the British. • The Germans were not allowed to take part in the creating of the treaty so they were strongly against it, but they were still forced to agree. • All major allied powers agreed to the treaty except for USA and China.
