Input §53.1-155: The Parole Board shall endeavor diligently to contact the victim prior to making any decision to release any inmate on discretionary parole. • Parole, geriatric release, pardons, medical clemencies • Input via letter, phone call, or in-person meeting (CONFIDENTIAL) • 2015: 679 victims provided input Virginia Department of Corrections

Input, con. • Parole Eligibility: Felony conviction prior to 1995 or multiple misdemeanor convictions prior to 2008 • Dates refer to when crime was committed, not when court process took place • The Board has the ability to defer some cases for up to three years Virginia Department of Corrections

Input, con. • Geriatric Release Eligibility: Offenders with convictions other than a Class 1 Felony AND age 65/served 5 years or age 60/served 10 years • Effective 7/1/14, this is an automatic annual review • Effective 7/1/16, the Board can defer consideration for up to three years Virginia Department of Corrections
