  2. What do they mean? • Anorexia is when you don’t eat • Bulimia is when you eat a whole lot and then force yourself to throw up (purge) • Anorexia means ‘loss of appetite’ • Bulimia means ‘ox hunger’

  3. Characteristics of Anorexia • 15% below weight • Fear of being fat • Irregular heartbeat • Dizzy • Trouble Concentrating • Brittle bones • Breaks easily

  4. Characteristics of Bulimia: • Binge eating • Feeling out of control • Purges food • Hides binges • Eats 5,000-7,000 calories at a time • Low potassium in blood • Calloused skin on fingers • Teeth (cavities) and mouth (sore throat)

  5. Image is influenced by body shape and body weight.

  6. Treatment & Management • Counseling (family or group therapy) • Anti-depressants • General Physician • Hospital • Group Therapy • Specialist doctor (psychologist or psychiatrist)
