  2. Violence! • Domestic Violence/abuse is when a person in a relationship uses behaviors to control the other person. It can happen to people who are married or not married, heterosexual, gay or lesbian, living together, separated, or dating. violence is physical , such as hitting and takes other forms, such as psychological, emotional, and or sexual abuse.

  3. How to help victims.- • If you suspect someone you know is being abused it may help to express your concern to the person in order to let them know you care and that you are a support for them. • Victims feel depressed, drained, scared, ashamed, embarrassed and confused.

  4. There are nine distinct forms of violence and abuse.- • Physical violence • Sexual violence • Emotional violence • Psychological violence • Spiritual violence • Cultural violence • Verbal abuse • Financial abuse • Neglect

  5. Physical Violence • It occurs when someone uses a part of their body or an object to control a person’s actions. • It includes: • Using physical force which results pain, discomfort or injury. • Hitting pinching, hair pulling, burning, slapping, beating, force-feeding or any other rough treatment.

  6. Sexual violence.- • Occurs when a person in the relationship is forced to unwillingly take part in sexual activity. • Forcing a person to perform sexual acts that may be degrading or painful. • Making unwelcome sexual comments or jokes • Humiliating, criticizing or trying to control the person’s sexuality.

  7. Emotional Violence.- • Occurs when someone says or does something to make a person feel bad or worthless. • It includes: name calling • Blaming all relationship problems on the other person • Using silent treatment • Destroying possessions, jealousy • Humiliating or making fun of the person

  8. Psychological violence. • Threats of violence • Threats of abandonment • Stalking • Verbal aggression • Not allowing a competent person to make decisions

  9. Spiritual violence • It happens when someone uses a person’s spiritual belies to manipulate. • Not allowing the person to follow her or his preferred spiritual religion

  10. Victims.- • Victims can be of any sex, age, race, culture, religion, education, employment or marital status • Most victims are women.

  11. Differences from a good and healthy relationship and a relationship with violence. Signs that help you to know if you are being abused. • Monitors what you’re doing all the time • Is very jealous and or spies on you • Humiliates you in front of others. On other hand, this is what to look for good and healthy relationship: • Respect • Trust • Kindness • Individuality • Acceptance • Listening • communicating
