  7. Portugal: • Portugal began with trading ports in Africa and Asia. Vasco Da Gama

  8. Spain: • Spain was more focused on the Americas • This is reflected in the culture of Latin America today Hernando Cortez

  9. The English, Dutch, and French • These countries began to colonize in the late 16th and early 17th century.

  10. The increase in overseas trade and colonial consumption… • Helped to stimulate the Industrial Revolution (especially in Great Britain)

  11. Germany & Japan • Both emerged as an Industrial Powers in the late 19th century and embarked on their own colonial competition.
