  1. Preliminary Task

  2. What We Had To Do: • Produce a Front Cover and Contents Page for an ‘underground’ college magazine

  3. Planning • In our groups we brainstormed ideas of how we wanted our magazines to look, and the content which would fill our front cover and contents page. • Being an ‘underground’ magazine, we have to think of our target audience. A magazine of this type would be more suited for pupils at a college so the magazine’s contents had to be suitable ad appealing for the readership. • We decided our main theme for the opening pages would be a rebellious school girl, who bullies people and takes drugs.

  4. Shooting • As a group we were given a camera to take pictures for our pages. ‘Big Mel’ is the character that we decided to use a our main cover image. We originally used some graffiti we found in school for the backdrop of the front cover, but we found the colours to difficult to work with when creating the magazine. • So we decided to re-shoot our main image. We used the main entrance to the school as our location, and we used a low angle shot to give ‘Mel’ higher status. The Mis En Scène was important as we needed to create the right image for ‘Mel’.

  5. Mis en Scène • Our group decided ‘Mel’ should be a modern looking rebel, a ‘chav’. We chose a white hoodie, a put the hood up to make the character look more suspicious. We also gave ‘Mel’ a cigarette to continue the rebellious theme, as she were standing next to a ‘no smoking’ sign. • We also used props like toilets; bins; and lockers so ‘Mel’ would have other locations to bully her victims.

  6. Designing the Magazine • To create our magazine, we needed to use ‘Adobe Photoshop’ on the Apple Mac. Unfortunately nobody in our group was familiar with the Mac’s and we all had very little experience of Photoshop. • After 2 weeks of trying to understand Photoshop, we eventually finished our Front Cover and Contents Page.
