Why do I believe chemicals management is important in Mexico? • The use of chemicals in different production activities, educational institutions, household activities and otherwise is high. • The environmental release of chemicals has contaminated all media: air, water, soil and food. • Human and biota exposure to chemicals, some of which are carcinogenic and with adverse effects, is of great concern. • Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the country. • Risk awareness is low among the population; regulation and controls are lax.   4. How do we seek to work with partners to improve chemicals management in Mexico? By fostering the development of effective and efficient mechanisms of cooperation that have an impact on policies for the Sound Management of Chemicals throughout their entire life cycle. Goal: for Mexico to have general legislation for chemicals management that accords with its needs and circumstances, as well as with the international context (REACH, green chemicals, development of alternatives to hazardous substances and green product design).
