  3. Partner Share • Think about how the twins plan to use their device. Think of some ways that devices are used to help people in society. • What do people need to do to make sure a new enterprise succeeds?

  4. Amazing Words • Improvement-the act of improving or making something better • Ben had ideas for the improvement of Philadelphia • Design- a sketch, drawing, or plan that serves as a pattern from which to work • The design showed how to build the machine. • TEACH YOUR PARTNER THESE WORDS

  5. Vocabulary • Applauds- to show approval or praise by clapping • Everyone applauds when the magician finishes his amazing act. • Inspecting- to look at closely • I use my magnifying glass when I’m inspecting the new mold growth. Teach your partner these words.

Vocabulary • Fabulous- almost impossible to believe • Synonym- incredible • The red feathers on her hat looked fabulous with a dark brown background. • Browsing- to inspect something leisurely and casually • Dylan spends hours browsing in stores but rarely buys anything. • Teach your partner these words.

  7. Shades of meaning • Which word has the strongest meaning: • Eat, gobble, nibble • Lump, particle, speck, chunk • Sip, swig, swallow, gulp • Which word in each list has the weakest meaning?

Past, present and Future • Perfect tense: • Shows action that began and was completed in the past • (past perfect: had finished) • Began in past and completed in present (present perfect: has given) • Began in the past or present and will be finished in the future (future perfect: will have written)
