  2. CT’s largest plant industries are: • Greenhouse • Nursery & Landscape • Florists • In CT, all 3 of these areas generate: • $949 million dollars per year • 2,500 companies • 41,000 employees

  3. Greenhouses • Over 200 Greenhouse growers in CT • Production of houseplants & annuals • Annual – a plant that completes its life cycle in one year (some flowers & vegetables)

  4. Nursery & Landscape • “Nursery” refers to area where trees, shrubs, and perennials are grown • Perennial – fleshy plant that grows for several years without needing to be replanted • Landscaping includes lawn mowing, pruning, designing, planting

  5. Florists in CT • 600 Floral Shops • 90 mass market florists (grocery stores) • 50 free lance florists (out of their homes) • 40 growers & suppliers
