  1. Factors to consider before buying a sofa. Choosing the right sofa depends on factors such as finding a design and color that will match your house. It's important that you take your time and search for a sofa that is elegant, comfortable and appropriate when you are shopping for a new one. A good sofa will last for years, a better one will last for decades and so it's important you learn about quality before you even think about your budget. Below is a guide on how to buy the best sofa for your living space. 1. Type of sofa There are different types of sofas on the market that will suit everyone taste, budget or preference. A standard sofa has room for only three people. A modular sofa unites more pieces to accommodate more people and it's mainly used in family homes. They are also favorable in houses with a big space and works well in the separation of a room. A loveseat is a type of sofa that is primarily made for two and are an excellent pair when you need extra seats on the corner of a room. A sofa bed, also known as a Murphy bed serves the purpose as a makeshift bed. 2. Type of frame A sofa having a sturdy frame means that it's probably long-lasting. Some softwood such as pine will wobble after a few years of use. Making your sofa with hardwoods such as oak and birch is a better idea as it becomes more durable. You should avoid frames that are made of plastic or metals as they will eventually warp or crack. To test the strength of your frame, lift a leg of the sofa of the floor. By the time you get to 6 inches, the sofa too should have risen. If the sofa is still touching the floor, it simply means that the frame is weak. 3. Types of Textiles Sofas used for everyday life needs a tough fabric. Cotton, linen and leather are winners in this category as they are long-lasting. Synthetic microfiber will also mimic most fabrics, and it's stain resistant. Cotton and linen are stain resistant although they can be stubborn to clean. Blending natural and synthetic fibers tends to peal within a year. Wool and leather are beautiful and tough. 4. Test the springs Most sofas have sinuous springs which are made up of assembled units of snaking wires. They are supportive and flexible but can sag overtime if the metal is not heavy. Premium sofas come with an "8-way hand-tied springs" which are comfy and expensive. 5. Type of cushions Seat cushions should be firm and fit very well into the sofa frame. The cushions should regain to its original shape when you press down and let go. Waterproof scattered cushions are also a good idea to avoid damage from water when one accidentally spills water or food. Waterproof scattered cushions are easy to clean and makes your seats resilient from damage. Cushions that do not fit snugly in a place will start to lose its shape, and the edges will be unsightly.

  2. Make sure you buy the best quality sofa you can afford. On average, the sofa can last between 10-15 years.
