  1. Welcome to Dance 1 S Ms. Kadets

  2. What to Expect Our focus will be on: You will learn how to DANCE! This class will have you on your feet, up in the air, and rolling around on the floor.

  3. Major Units & Projects *Projects/units subject to change as time permits.

  4. What do I need for class? We change for class every day, unless otherwise instructed. A lock/locker will be provided to you if you do not have gym this semester. Use locker room time to change quickly, lock up your personal items, and use the rest rooms. • Close-fitting athletic clothing • Sneakers or dance shoes • Dance notebook and pen • Water bottle • Hair tie • Meds (if needed)

  5. What don’t you need...? Large jewelry Jeans or baggy clothing Phone, keys, wallet, purse Homework from other classes TRUST ME, you won’t need them. Lock them up!

  6. Grading Policies Each Marking Period grade will consist of: Each student will be evaluated according to his/her own personal growth.

  7. Class Participation Dance is a course with high expectations in class participation. Your growth and achievement are entirely dependent on daily progress. You will earn a Class Participation Grade every day. Make the most of that clean slate EVERY DAY.

  8. Class Participation Daily grades are based on:

  9. Fast Ways to Lose CP Points(AKA: bad ideas) Sitting out = a zero for the day. Unprepared = -20 Dance etiquette offenses = -5 or more **repeat offenses = bigger losses 

  10. Homework, Quizzes & Tests HOMEWORK QUIZZES & TESTS • Copy the notes!!! • Homework assignments may consist of journals, worksheets, or researching dance history facts. • Expect to have only 1 to 2 brief homework assignments per week • I hate late homework! • Written quizzes/tests consist of dance vocabulary, understanding concepts, and analyzing dance works. • Performance tests (evaluations) will consist of skills, concepts and choreography learned in class. No surprises.

  11. Absences & Make-Up Work *Students have 2 days per day absent to complete assignments for full credit, as per district policy.

  12. Absences & Make-Up Work Dancers learn by dancing in class. Consequently, there is no way to make up the dance portions of your daily CP grade by dancing... You will be assigned written work for each day absent, suspended, etc. Students with medical exemptionswill be assigned make up work on a case-by-case basis. Extra help is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for any students who need it... Just ask!

  13. Final Exam & Evaluation The Dance 1 S Final has performance and written components covering both marking periods. It is worth 20% of the final course grade. Last year’s final looked like this:
