  4. RESPECT CaféSit down, relax and contribute. RESPECT Café What is Respect ? Respect involves taking someone's feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration, acknowledging them, taking them seriously, recognising their individuality and giving them value.

  7. RESPECT CaféSit down, relax and contribute RESPECT Café • Respect for All • Brooksby Melton College wants to help students and staff understand and celebrate diversity by creating a culture of inclusivity, where all are valued. It will do this through a campaign known as: • “Respect for All”

RESPECT Café College Commitment The College is committed to Equality and Diversity, providing opportunities for all, and respects that each person is different; ethnic origin, gender, disability, mental health, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief and economic and social need. • We will expect all students to have the same commitment to these values.

RESPECT Café Campaign Aims • Raising the profile of ‘Respect for All’ with students and staff across the college. • Embedding respect in a consistent manner across all areas of provision. • In an area where diversity is limited, improving the understanding of ‘Respect for All’ within the community.

RESPECT Café Campaign Strategy • To deliver a structured group tutorial programme that promotes respect, diversity and inclusion. • To embed Respect for All within the college curriculum and showcase student projects that promote Respect for All. • To carry out other cross college campaigns that will support the Respect for All agenda.

RESPECT Café • Respect for All – Key Topics • Racism • Gender issues • Religion / belief (non belief) • Being safe / cyber bullying • Hidden disabilities (autism, dyslexia) • Challenging disrespectful language • Learning about other communities • Personal confidence / communication skills • Others?

RESPECT Café Group Task 2 Students divide into groups Each group picks person to chair discussions Chair announces topic for discussion Group discuss their topic and record their ideas Groups move to another table - Chair stays Chair recaps what last group discussed, group adds their ideas to record.

RESPECT Café • Respect for All in Curriculum Areas • By Easter 2012, each curriculum area will be expected to showcase student projects on what respect means to them. This could either be a short film or video, poster, song, dance or theatre.
