  2. Chapter 1 Introduction to gas welding 1.1 Welding Processes • Welding is a process of joining parts together by melting. In this book we will be looking at the welding of Metal. • There are many types of welding methods. We will look at Oxy Acetylene Welding and Arc Welding processes. http://makemoneywelding.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Oxy-Acetylene

  3. Oxy Acetylene Welding Oxy acetylene welding is commonly used to join mild steel. Oxygen and Acetylene Gas are mixed in a torch and burned to produce a very high temperature (3500 °C), precise flame that can melt and join metal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=TQP8EBQRvr0 Time 1:50-3:50 (no Sound)

  4. Brazing This is another method of joining metal using a gas flame. Oxy Acetylene welding equipment is often used for this. To braze steel parts together, the two metal parts are heated to ‘red’ heat and then a brazing rod is applied to the joint. The brazing rod is a metal (usually brass) that melts at a lower temperature than steel and so it melts to form a molten liquid. This liquid brazing rod then flows along the joint between the two parts. Brazing can also be used to join different types of metal together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=U-qUyxotzWM Time 0:04-1:10 (no Sound)

  5. ARC Welding Arc welding is a type of welding that uses an electrical power supply to create an arc between an electrode and the metal to melt. There are three main types of arc welding commonly used today : MMA Manual Metal Arc MIG Metal Inert Gas TIG Tungsten Inert Gas http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=PL889AAB1FA98085E5&v=g6AEJWzAsu0 TIME 5:18- 5:29 • We will look at arc welding processes in a later book.
