The predecessor of the faculty opened in 1842 The religios institution was nationalised during the post-war period in 1948 and was eventually given back to the church in 1993 The Catholic teacher training college has been one of the faculties of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University since 2008 Historical background of the institution

The faculty was named after Vitéz János (1408-1472) He was a humanist thinker, was named the Archbishop of Esztergom in 1465 The University intends to live up to the following principles: a universal and comprehensive scientific view that is capable of immersion and synthesis, respect for human personality, Christian and European education ideal, and family, ability of co-operation and recognition of other people's values, openness, internationality, and autonomy of science, guarantee of freedom at university An item from the university’s mission statement

Department of Education and Social sciences of Vitéz János Faculty This faculty homes Andragogy, as well as Communication-Media, Socialpedagogy and teacher training BA courses The three-year long BA Andragogy course was developed and accredited in co-operation with 16 Hungarian higher education institutions within the Bologna process Requirements of the degree: 180 credits giving qualification and the student can proceed to do an MA degree

The bachelor course’s aim is to educate community and adult education professionals who can, in line with their specialisations fill organiser, evaluator, counsellor, manager, teacher as well as HR and developer positions in the different arenas and levels of adult education, learning and community education in towns, institutions, organisations and communities We have approx. 200 registered full-time and part-time students on our courses in the academic year of 2008-09 The aim of BA Andragogy

The department is in close connection with the other eighteen institutions running andragogy courses Organises the national meeting of lecturers on a regular basis in Esztergom Our department strongly encourages extensive relations in order to promote practical skills development with every sector of adult education and cultural institutions These co-operations mean the exchange of experience and connection to various international development programmes (European Master is Adult Education (EMEA), A Good Adult Educator in Europe, AGADE 2006) Cooperations

  7. MA courses Co-operation with doctoral institutions To develop distance learning and international student exchange programmes aswell as to develop a national and European research and development co-operation programmes Future plans
