Brief Introduction • Wenzhou Medical College (WMC), rooted from Zhejiang Medical School in 1912, is a public institution of higher learning directly under Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Education. It is located in Wenzhou, a southeast coastal city with 40-minutes flight from metropolitan Shanghai. Wenzhou is a place where you can enjoy pleasant climate, charming scenery and exciting life.

  5. Wenzhou Medical College is composed of three campuses, located respectively at Xueyuan Road, Xiushan and Chashan, covering an area of 73 ha. (=1100 mu) with a building floor of 180,000 m2. Subordinate to WMC are 6 institutes, 1 experimental animal center, 10 affiliated hospitals totaling 7,000 odd beds, 46 teaching hospitals or hospitals for clinical internships. Now it has over 12,000 undergraduates and nearly 700 postgraduates. Of more than 1,000 faculty, odd 550 have professorships or the equivalent academic titles.

  7. WMC has one experimental animal centre,10 affliated hospitals totally 7,000 beds , 46 teaching hospitals for clinicals or internships and 15 centres for laboratroy. WMC has a meseum where human parts have been kept fresh and safe for experiments.

  8. From 2006, Wenzhou Medical College was authorized to confer doctorate degrees in Ophthalmology, Surgery and Gynecology. Wenzhou Medical College is one of the first institutions authorized by the State Council to confer Master’s degree. The Program of Ophthalmology & Optometry is the first one established in China to train optometric professionals with medical background. Given their distinguished achievements in the optometric development, Ministry of Public Health of China based its first and only national Center of Optometry Research in WMC. A Sino-U.S. joint program for Doctorate of Optometry is now under way.

Qualification for Application • Undergraduate: An applicant who is （ a ） minimum a high secondary graduate with good health and without criminal record, applicants for Dental program should be used to right hand to operate (b) Applicants must have passed Grade twelve (10+2) or equivalent , (c) minimum 60% score in science subjects (PCB): Physics, Chemistry, Biology (d) Among all the subjects, English Language is as a compulsory one and the level is good , (e) Age should be minimum 18 years old at the time of admission or will complete this age on 31st October of the year of his/her admission.

  20. Documents for ApplicationAn applicant should submit the scan copies of higher second school Certificate, Transcript, Passport, PP Size picture.

Time of application and registrationThere is autumn - Oct/Sept session yearly.The admission deadline is August 15 （ may close early too if the seats are filled according to Availability of seats）. Any student should submit his/her documents and confirm seats as soon as possible so that college can process Admission Letter and JW202 Study Visa Form in time. The class starts in October and new foreign students shall come to the college sign up and register during October 10 to October 15 .Final information is subject to what mentioned in Admission Letter.

Two persons share a room with air conditioner, attached bathroom, color TV, telephone, bed with required amenities and furniture, free hot---drinking---water heater, refriger, public laundry and kitchen, internet access. Students are required to pay the electricity and water they used.

Introduction of Wenzhou City • Area : the city covers a total land of 11,784 square kilometers and the sea area of some 11000 square kilometers • Population : by the end of 2004, the city has a total population of 7.46million • Climate: it is part of the subtropical climate zone, noticeable for its alternation dry and monsoon periods, distinct seasons, abundant rainfall and generous sunshine. It has an average annual temperature of 18. ℃.

  39. FAQ ( Frequently Asked Question ) • 1. I really want to study at your college, but I can’t speak Chinese, can I be instructed in English? The program is fully English medium program. • 2. How is the living standard in Wenzhou city? What about the canteen in the college? The living expense here is relatively reasonable, for example, about 70 USD for your food per month. There are 5 canteens in the college; you can choose any one as per your taste. • 3. Location of college and How can I arrive in Wenzhou City ? The recommended flight is transit from Shanghai to Wenzhou,( around 40 minutes), or transit from Beijing to Wenzhou ( around 1.5 hours), or transit from Guangzhou to Wenzhou( around 1 hour), or transit from Hongkong to Wenzhou( around 2 hours) . Students can choose the travel route according to their location.

  40. 4. Can you send a vehicle to take us from the Local airport to the college? Sure, we can provide free Airport pick up service for the students in group from local airport-Wenzhou Airport to campus. But students should send departure detailed schedule to our college’s representative minimum 3 days in advance so that we can pick up without any delay. • 5. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China ? Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in Airport when they arrive in China . And students can buy telephone card from business counter in Airport to give international call and domestic call if students need. • 6. How are the transportation, telecom and internet in Wenzhou City ? Transportation: there are an airport, train station, bus to many cities in China . There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call in any time and there are lots of internet pub for going on internet.

He could also use this account to have his family remit any additional money as required. • 10. Is learning Chinese Language compulsory? Even though the entire course is taught in English, one has to learn Chinese language and culture according to China Ministry of Education policy for degree program study in China, and also It is very important for general communication, because you need it in your clinical sessions after second year and for your own convenience.
