Personal Assistance Service • In home personal care and other approved support activities • Consumers can direct their own care or choose to have a caregiver direct their care. • A cognitively impaired consumer cannot direct his/her own care. Such an individual may have a caregiver or legally authorized surrogate who is willing to direct the care • The caregiver who is directing the care may not be the paid personal assistant

Role of the Fiscal Agent for Personal Assistance Service The fiscal agent meets with consumer to have the necessary forms signed enabling them to become the employer of the personal assistant Provides time slips to be signed by the consumer verify hours worked by the personal assistant Coach consumers on being an employer: interviewing, hiring, training, firing Have an RN available as needed to teach health maintenance activities
