Purchase a Composition Notebook • Record Hours and Supervising Adult Signature in Journal • Journal Reflection Each Time Service Is Completed • See Handout for Topics • Staple a Photo of you completing the service for each Journal Entry • Turn in Journal on May 9, 2014 with all 24 hours completed. Service Journal

  4. September – Support a Soldier • October – ButterBraid Fundraiser • November – Veterans Day Program & Reception • December – Shriner’s Hospital • January – Teacher’s Pet • February – Pennies for Patients • March – Cell Phone Drive • April – Parson’s House Bunny Baskets & Visit • May – Teacher Appreciation Week School Based Projects

Volunteering for special community events or service projects • Animal Shelter • Community Programs • Homeless Shelter • Soup Kitchen • Reading to the elderly or assisting the elderly with household chores (shoveling, raking, etc.) • Volunteering for special church projects • Does not include altar serving • Improving school buildings and grounds (e.g., picking up trash, supervised painting) • Coaching younger children in a sport or other activity • Assisting with Special Olympics • Assisting at a hospital, nursing home, Friendship Club • Working for a political party or campaign • Working with Lomax faculty/staff to complete special projects Acceptable Personal Service Work

Doing chores at home or helping family members • Attending church or Sunday School • Working on the family farm or in the family business • Babysitting for relatives or friends • Completing ANY task for which money or gifts are received • Athletic/student group/Class activities, including Student Ambassador Activities. • (Except NJHS sponsored activities or approved Meet in the Middle Activities) Unacceptable Personal Service Work

  11. Things to Send • Handwritten Letter • Beef Jerky • Sauces or Spices in PLASTIC containers • Canned Goods with Pop-Tops • Individually wrapped snacks (Granola Bars, Pop Tarts, Crackers) • Hard Candy (No Chocolate!) Sgt. Dan Carroll

  12. Things to Send • Sports Magazines • Movies • Playing Cards • Handheld Games • Batteries (AA, AAA, D) • Crossword Puzzles, Sudoku, Etc. Sgt. Dan Carroll

  13. Things to Send • Band-Aids • Baby Wipes • Soap / Body Wash • Deodorant • Toothpaste • Over the Counter Medicines (Ibuprofen, Icy Hot, Allergy Meds) Sgt. Dan Carroll

  14. Use Flat Rate Boxes from USPS (boxes are free) • Don’t Ship Food & Hygiene Items together. • ALWAYS Ziploc Food and Hygiene Items to avoid Leakage or Permeation. PACKAGING /SHIPPING

  15. Service Hours – • 3 Hours for creating a 10 item package that INCLUDES a personalized handwritten letter to Sgt. Carroll from YOU! • Don’t forget to Journal about it! • Make sure to get pictures of you writing your letter, packing & shipping your box to include in your journal! • Include a copy of your shipping receipt with your journal • DUE BY SEPTEMBER 30th! Get Hours!
