  4. Believe in What You Conceive • Start with the idea that the initiative will be sustained • Be a champion • Surround yourself with others with similar passion • Build relationships that lead to trusting partnerships

  5. Strengthen and Expand on Existing Programs Can you build on current: • relationships/partnerships? • initiatives within the agency, with partner agencies? • professional development? • funding opportunities?

  6. Beware of Your Assumptions • Participation in initial professional development ensures expected changes will occur – it does not • Professional development is only for instructors – it is not • More is better – it may not be

  7. Policies Can Support Systemic Change

  8. Funding – Re-evaluate, Redirect • Does money support what you want to accomplish? • Does money support effective strategies? • What is your return on investment? • Do you maintain the status quo?

Funding Considerations • Start up money through pilot • Other sources of adult education funds • State Leadership 223, Incentive Funds • Other agency initiatives • Grants Office, e.g. Shifting Gears, Gates Developmental Education Initiative • Performance-based funding, SSI formulas • Partnerships with other agencies • In-kind support such as space, student perks, shared staff

BOR Office of Grants and Strategic Alliances —Grants Database The Ohio Board of Regents Office of Grants and Strategic Alliances has established a grants database with customized tools developed by OARnet that will allow us to: • Identify and track awarded grants • Archive historical information • Maintain a repository for proposals, applications, reports and other key documentation

BOR Office of Grants and Strategic Alliances—Grants Database • Identify and track developmental and pending grant applications and strategic initiative proposals, including related memoranda of understanding (MOU’s) , letters of support, and other key documentation • Identify and track prospective grant and strategic alliance opportunities and resources • Program and receive reporting and deadline alerts
