  5. Recruiting vs. Retention • Retention is still a problem that we should continue to work on…. • However, our efforts at recruiting new members into existing clubs in also going down • We need to FOCUS ON MEMBERSHIP… • …FOCUS ON RECRUITING

Membership = Recruiting • Definition of recruit: renew or restore the health, vitality or intensity of • Each time we recruit new member we are adding a new dimension to the club • Each new member restores the vitality of your club • Recruiting is essential to the continuation of our Association

Answer to Recruiting Problem • Stop the hit and miss • FOCUS on the problem • In U.S. 11,082 out of 13,242 clubs have membership chairs • In Alabama 130 out of 160 clubs have membership chairs • What are they doing? • Plan an event that involves entire club • Have a “Lions Night Out” or “Friendship Night” that brings prospects to a dinner • Sell Lionism to the prospects • Side benefit - orientation of current members

  11. FOCUSON RECRUITING • Find Prospects • Offer Opportunity to Come Together • Convince Prospects to Attend • Understand What Lions are About • Secure a Commitment to Join

FIND PROSPECTS • Meeting of members (buy in) • Set goal of net increase • Use prospect wheel • Send around sheet • Insure them they will receive sponsorship • Newsletters, e-mails and phone calls to members • Put community notice in paper that club doing membership drive • Create competition – divide club into teams

  13. Brainstorming Prospects Without Discussing Characteristics, Qualities, or Willingness of Prospective Individuals, Name At Least 5 Actual Prospects From Your Community

Offer Opportunity to Come Together • Plan Details of “Lions Night Out” (Friendship Dinner) • Decide the date, time and place • Decide about the food – consider payment of prospects and others • Outline of presentation at dinner • Arrange for audio/visual aids at meeting • Order information from LCI

  15. Convince Prospects to Attend • Formal invitation with RSVP • Follow up personal visit • Follow up phone call • Offer to pick them up • Call day of meeting
